Large collection
Feb 2018 • Couples
A surprisingly large collection of rocks and fossils crammed into a Tardis like museum. If you're a geology or palaeontology geek then you'll love this, particular the dinosaur eggs. also you can look into the workshop and see what they are currently working on. Clearly they are very enthusiastic chaps who love their work and want to share it with others. Could obviously improve the layout, labelling and interpretations etc but it's great value for money and a nice unexpected diversion for a couple of hours

Unexpectedly wonderful!

Let me start by giving you some context. We are a family with a biologist (mom) and geologist (dad) and two kids who are very interested in fossils, rocks, and animals. This little museum blew us away. It's very small and very full, and the more we looked the more cool things we saw. Fossilized cycad! Fossil bivalve with a geode inside! Stuffed versions of a lot of the birds we had seen on our adventures! Not sure everyone would love this as much as we did, as there isn't a ton of interpretation to explain what you're looking at. But if natural history museums are your thing, check this one out!

Unexpectedly impressive collection!
Jan 2017 • Family
Even if you are not into natural history, you'll be impressed at what these small 4 rooms packed from floor to ceiling with artifacts have to offer. From meteorites to dinosaur excrement and taxidermy everything, this private collection competes with well-funded museums in the breadth of items on exhibit. Unfortunately, the rooms are so stuffed with artifacts and fossils that many interesting things go unnoticed. The collection could fill up a space 2-3x its size and could be better organized to tell a more coherent story, but if you are lucky enough to have the owner around to explain a few of the fossils, it's better than any guided tour at a large museum. Great for a 1-hr stopover after the Cascada de los Duendes/Mirador Lago Gutierrez hikes or before dinner at Cassis.

Museo de Geologico y Paleontologico
Oct 2015 • Solo
The best 40 pesos I have spent in a long time. This tiny museum is crammed with bones, fossils, stuffed birds, dinosaur relics. The owner is responsible for creating the collection and had I been a paleontologist, I would have spent hours talking to him on his favourite subject! This is way better than the Bariloche Museo de Paleontology in the city. Just a few meters up the road from Lago Gutierrez. A bus ride from the city takes less than half an hour. Well worth the time.

decent short hikes

Went here in the winter for some hiking. There's a good path that will take you to a waterfall, and then it continues to a couple viewpoints. The views aren't as amazing as the other hills in the area (Cerro Otto, Llau, and Camanario being my favorites), but it's still nice. It was about 2-3 hours round trip from the bus stop.

It is a great lake surrounded by high mountains. It is a great place to come and swim in the summer, although the water is always cold

On your way to Cerro Tronador!
Jun 2015 • Friends
All tours to "Cerro Tronador" drive along "Lago Gutiérrez", with its blue waters and pine covered forests. It was named by famous Argentinian naturalist and explorer Francisco Moreno (mostly known as "Perito Moreno") after his academic mentor Juan Maria Gutiérrez. Located at only 12 km from San Carlos de Bariloche, "Lago Gutiérrez" is popular for biking, kayaking, picnicking and sunbathing. Enjoy!

Nature at showing off

The Lake is impressive with great views. It is almost as if this is the only place in the world when you are there....hidden in a valley. Snow covered peaks on top.....

Lovely place
Not something very special but tranquile and romantic. Beautiful views to the lake and the mountains, easy hike along the lake, lovely waterfall. We enjoyed a lot.

Started from catedral, got down on el balcón de gutierres, then to the waterfalls and took a bus 50 back to Bariloche directly from the lake. Easy 14km relaxing hike.

Great hiking trails for the average hiker.
Apr 2015 • Family
The hiking trails to the scenic overlooks up the mountain was great. it was challenging enough that you felt like you got some exercise, but not too difficult that the whole family (and plenty of dogs) couldn't handle it. When you got to the the scenic overlooks, they were magnificent and you really felt like you were rewarded for making the trip. Make sure that you are dropped off at the entrance to the park, not at the beginning, or you will take the first 2 kilometer walk in an area that is along a dusty road and really is a waste of time.
