If you don't mind a gravel road, it os a beautifull route with many great views. At the end of the route you can find some restaurants where you can get simple honest food.

The landscape changes all the time. From crystal frosts to flowery springs and summers, the road is a must for any visit in the region. Beware of cattle and horses that may be walking on the road, especially on winter nights.

The drive from Bariloche to San Martin de los Andes will lead you through some of the most beautiful scenery in Patagonia. Its a winding road so no chance of speeding. Take your time and take in the scenery!

Just do it. Get the right bus from San Martin to Bariloche (ask for Siete Lagos) and settle in for a bone shaking eye opening four hour journey. Obviously better if you do it when the Argentinian sky is nice and blue. Take water and maybe a couple of empanadas.

We did the 7 lakes route by car in November. Although it is supposed to be one of the best drives in the country, we were not all that impressed. Was it the weather (cloudy and grey), was it because we were tired, was it because we expected too much...? No idea, but unless you've got spare time not something... More

Did 5 day road trip Ruta 40. Awesome and beautiful country. Well worth renting car and taking road trip on your own. So many beautiful sights and wildflowers and mountains all along way. And of course the 7 Lakes too.

Took day trip from bariloche in minibus with English speaking guide and driver. Full day excursion 8 am thru 6pm although could be later. Lake settings superb, each setting a little different and keep interest. Breaks for morning coffee and 2 hours in st martin de los Andes make this an easy trip to enjoy.
