The museum is beautifully organised as a journey back through time and the dinosaur or megafauna remains are presented in that context.

There were good, readable explanations in English. I enjoyed it as s learning experience, as well as being impressed by the size of the skeletons.

Even the entrance area has s fascinating display comparing some small feathered dinosaurs and early birds.

A distance away from Puerto Madryn in the not so quaint/picturesque town of Trelew. The small museum is interesting, especially if you are into dinosaurs! The dinosaur skeleton replics are excellent!

This museum is great. Make sure you watch the BBC film with David Attenborough about finding the fossils of the largest dinosaur ever. At the moment they need to build a aircraft hanger to house the life size skeleton but still a great place.

This small modern museum is about 40 minutes by road from Puerto Madryn. It is interesting and well presented, with information in English and Spanish. There is a David Attenborough video to begin with, which relates the discovery, nearby, of the biggest species of dinosaur yet found. Details are also given of the science behind the find and the stages of the research.
There are many dinosaur species on display in the rooms and the models are interesting.
As you approach the outskirts of the town, there is a vast model too.
A small gift shop is a bonus.
The town itself, and nearby Gaimin, have history and, the latter, Welsh heritage.

We visited this museum in September this year while on a tour of Welsh Patagonia. It is an amazing museum full of interesting exhibits and I would encourage anyone who is in the area to spend a few hours here. Some fascinating dinosaur finds and some amazing work being done at this museum. Well worth a visit, friendly and informative staff and some great research being carried out.

we were not sure what to expect but then found we did not have enough time to see the movie at the end. The tours are in Spanish , very little English is given, but the Movie (David Attenborough) is in English and very interesting. Really worth the time!

MEF is an excellent, small paleontological museum in Trelew. It is home of the famous Titanosaur Patagotitan! The Titanosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History in NY or the Field Museum in Chicago are based on the MEF’s discovery of the Patagotitan.

Some of the Patagotitan’s original bones are on display. However, the museum is expanding to create space to display the Patagotitan and other dinosaurs of Argentina it has discovered. In the meantime, there are some unusual dinosaurs (such as Carnotaurus and Amargasaurus) and other fossils in the exhibition halls. One of my favorites is an enormous dinosaur egg that’s a little smaller than a bowling ball. It’s been filled in with agate so now it’s a stunning spherical geode!

The museum also has a window into the fossil lab preparation area so you can see what fossils people are working on.

If you’re in Trelew, spend an hour or 2 at MEF!

We made a special effort to get to Trelew to see the museum. It is a small institution but professionally developed into an education resource. The personnel were nicely-trained and the displays are well-considered for a wide range of age. It was a bonus to see the bones in the geographic area in which so many of the large dinosaurs were actually located. It was worth the stop.

We happened upon thios Palentological Museum which sits in front of the old Trelew train depot.
The story goes there was supposed to be a railway built between Trelew and Buenos Aires. It lloks like Trelew held up there up there in end of the deal waiting for the folks in Buenos Aires to show up...In side the museum is an amazing collection of pre-historic artifacts that are continuosly being identified throughout the area. Living here in Miami, I am surrounded by the distant cousins of these prehistoric bones...well they are much smaller today; and thank goodness for that! We enjoyed this museum so much we decided to stop in a second time. Park your car by the casino to avoid theft. Do not leave valuables in the car.

This is a delightful museum. I was particularly impressed with the looped film they show which discusses the history of the universe in reverse -- starting from now and working its way backwards in time. The exhibits are interesting and the visit ends with an opportunity to observe the staff working with artifacts . . . or eating their lunch or visiting. Hey, we can't work all the time right? However, if you have anything in your car, only park directly in front of the museum where the local police are standing there watching. We parked behind the museum after seeing police walking around and thought it was safe. We were wrong and lost all our suitcases (we were heading to the airport after the museum) and now one of our only souvenirs from our trip to Argentina is a police report.
