Took the lengthy drive out only to find out it was closed. Not sure if it's permanent or not, but make sure you ask a local before heading out.

Amazing encounter with nature
Nov 2018 • Family
After a long ride, which involved many efforts to get the car out after getting stuck in mud, we arrived to Punta Delgada. First had lunch, there is one restaurant when you arrive to the place and they offer you a tour of the place includes with the meal. You can also just pay a fee to go straight to the marine elephants area.
The walk to get there includes many steps so wheelchairs and strollers are very difficult to get to the bottom. Maybe they could stay at the first stop where there is a great view of the ocean and entire ecosystem, and they will have a view of the entire route while the rest are walking.
Being able to see the elephants in their ecosystem is an out of the world experience, if you like and enjoy nature that is.
The ride was definitely worth it.

Peninsula Valdez is the most amazing place and you must go. The hotel is basic but just perfect for the surroundings. Leo our guide was great and his services were part of the hotel package. I can not recommend enough.

Beautiful place

By far the best place for sea elephants on the Peninsula! But come before 16:30 otherwise you can’t fully use the amenities and come closer to the animals. Or consider staying jn their hotel and use it in the evening as well.

Century old lighthouse still proudly on display.

We spent one night at the hotel next door and passed this red tower several times on the way to the shoreline viewpoint. Inside are several wall information boards explaining its history of being built in 1905 with the materials shipped to Puerto Piramides from Buenos Aires, then lumbered across the desert plateau by large wagon. The 400kg pound lamp is from Sweden and floats on a bed of mercury. Its 14 meters high but sitting up 65 meters above the water line on a sand dune giving it the elevation for a 20-40 km sweep.
Anyone can visit here by just parking at the Faro Punta Delgada Hotel restaurant and walking 100 meters inside the gate. The noted Southern Elephant Seal viewpoint is just 20 meters from the lighthouse. Excellent visit.

Sightseeing & restaurant!

No doubt, from our point of view the best place to see the animals very close on the peninsula. You can get very close to them. The view is great too.
However keep in mind the following options:
- 1 hour tour for 180 pesos
- 1 hour tour for free and you have to visit the restaurant
- Free visit of the lookout without any animal

We chose option two and ate there as well, but just a few things. That's how we could save some money over there.

Nature, nature and winds ...

Punta Delgada is a Lighthouse with a few buildings which were used in the past by the Argentinean Naval Forces. We really liked the spot and especially the opportunity of having guided tours around their property - either going to the sea and sitting down around 15 - 20 meters away from the sealions / sea elephants, having a horse ride or simply going by car to another spot seeing the sea - we really enjoyed this stay very much.

There are a few points one must know but they were fully acceptable to us:
- there is no telephone reception
- E-Mail works a few hours in the evenings but you cannot upload / download attachments
- the water you use for taking a shower is "a little bit salty"
- the next petrol station is around 1 1/2 hours away

We really liked this spot and it enabled us driving along the shoreline every morning for going to Punta Norte. We usually left when it was still dark and staff always had prepared some fruits, cookies and bread to take with us (instead of breakfast).

Staff is extremly nice and helpful - we would have given an "EXCELLENT" - however we were given a room where guests had been smoking and there was no spare room available and we had to spend one night in very smelly room.

Windswept eerie landscape

Great short walk out to the lighthouse with wind whistling and sea birds circling. Walk out among the rocks on the shoreline. Did not go inside lighthouse. Good cafe nearby. Bracing!

Nice small lighthouse. Still in use. Has details of the history and building it around it. Views are spectacular towards the sea and inlands.

We were attracted by the romanticism of staying in a hotel with a lighthouse on the end of a peninsular. We were certainly not disappointed.
First the accommodation; the rooms we stayed in were in what had been the station school a white washed building near the lighthouse itself. The bedrooms were located around a lounge whose walls are lined with glass cases with a small exhibit dedicated to the local wildlife, a small kitchen with tea and coffee making facilities and a wood burner. The rooms themselves were simply furnished –quite Spartan in feel in keeping with the building itself and were en suite with good bathrooms-though as we were warned the water was salty. The bed was good.
The dining room and bar were in a separate estancia type building with a big, light enclosed porch where we had breakfast-which was very good. Dinner was served in the separate dining room with its own wood burners and was good overall except for one rather bizarre menu choice-pasta and curry should never be combined- the wines were very good and not expensive. The service was excellent. It was interesting to watch the morning preparation of the lamb Asado for lunch cooked over an open wood fire in the open kitchen.
But the stars of the show were the guided walks to the beaches to see the elephant seals and whales frolicking in the bay. We did 3 walks in total one as a group in the first morning and 2 more in the evening and at dawn. Our guide Joaquin was informative and enthusiastic. He really made the trip for us.
It was a really good base for getting around the rest of the peninsular and seeing the other spectacular wildlife.
Horse riding was available but unfortunately we did not find out about it until it was too late to do.
Don’t be put off by the drive, even at night like we did it in a 3 door Ka, it was fine!
