A gem on the peninsular
Feb 2021
We toured the entire peninsular, and yet this detour, and the road extending south from here, seemed the least visited. The interior road to the caleta is average, a few nandu (ostriches) and armadillos visible, but the money you hit the coast it is absolutely gorgeous. This caleta is mysterious, the water forms large pools and then rushes through narrow channels, and at sunset the views were spectacular. Besides the penguin/sea-lion colonies to the north, this was the most beautiful part of the entire peninsular that we saw. It is worth continuing south and doing the mostly-coastal loop back towards Puerto Piramides as there is also a beautiful salt flat on the way, and the loop is only slightly longer than the more direct interior road.

Amazing

Gorgeous views from all of the viewpoints here. Don't miss it! Pay attention to when high tide is to maximize your chances of seeing orcas.

It's a wonderful place to watch wildlife , elephant seals, seal lion, magellanic penguins. We arrived too late in the season to see right whales and too early to watch killer whales nevertheless we were not at all desapointed.

LOVED it!
Feb 2017 • Couples
On our full day tour of Valdes Peninsula, we made two stops in Caleta Valdes. Both were fantastic! At the first we were able to observe, from a distance, elephant seals! Even from a distance, they were really fun to see. Be sure to take your binoculars if you own some. The other stop was to see a small colony of Magellanic penguins. They are so cute and funny to watch! We loved our entire day on the Valdes Peninsula. Be sure to take a tour with many stops!

Fabulous for viewing magellanic penguins close up
Feb 2016
Wow this was realy great as we were able to see very close up, a few feet away, scores of penguins. They weren't scared and it was just amazing. We also, in the same area, saw Mara, burrowing owls, Rea's and lots of Guanaco. my wife even saw a hairy armadillo. this was the best place we had for animals. a real treat

Limited animals viewed from a distance
Dec 2015 • Couples
Caleta Valdes is one of the three viewpoints (Caleta Valdes, Punta Norte, Punta Cantor) on the eastern aspect of Peninsula Valdes that are included as part of a standard tour. It features a distinct landscape with the gravel spit creating a sheltered bay which attracts Magellanic Penguins and Elephant seals. There is a small cafe near the car park and from here you have a pathway that leads to a viewpoint over the bay.

Unfortunately like most of the Peninsula you will be kept at a significant distance from the animals, whom seemed to be there in only limited numbers when I visited in December 2015. This was pretty disappointing after such a long drive to get here. Given these same animal feature in several other popular tours (ie Punta Tombo, Punta Ninfas) but much closer up I would recommend giving this place and the larger Peninsula a miss.

Awesome, the pingüinera specially!
Dec 2015 • Couples
For landscape and animal watching, with a seal watch point and a penguin watch point. The penguins are right there 1m from you. On Dec/Jan you can watch the babies as they start leaving the nest. Súper cool.

If you travel downsouth, to Province of Chubut, Patagonia Atlántica Argentina, you shouldn´t miss Caleta Valdes.
It`s a beautiful place to visit, especially because it is mainly "inhabited" by pinguins!
Great view to the sea!

Enjoy as much as I did

Penguins at first site, keeping their offspring on then nests,
Some quiet some hyperactive , they make you laugh and sometimes be quiet and like in meditation.
They are zen animals, I love them, the place is awesome with awesome views ...the Atlantic sea, the deep blue see in Patagonia, not to be missed out.
