Only as part of a tour to other places

A distance from the port; visited in route to the Paleontology Museum. An OK stop to see the sea lions. (if you've seen colonies of sea lions before, this is the same sight).
Not a destination to send the day!

Sea lions
Jan 2020
It is about a half hour from the ship. Great place to view seal lions in the wild. Very steep cliffs where you can view them below.
Peninsula Valdes has been listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Short trip

Best to see this by boat. The local agents charge a lot to take you to the cliff viewing point and it’s nicer to take a boat trip which includes dolphins.

Fantastic sea lion viewing opportunity
Oct 2019
It takes about 30 minutes to get here from the Puerto Madryn pier by tour bus/car. Once there there are two trails. The closer one allows you to look down the cliff about 200 feet into a sheltered cove to see tons of sea lions sunning themselves and relaxing. A walk of about 1000 feet down the other trail takes you to a different point on the cliff where you can see the previous cove and also see sea lions swimming!

Go there for a great view of sea lions

We were there at 8:30, after opening. The place was all for us and the sea lions. You can observe them from above and enjoy the show. You can also observe the rock shags and rabbits. Totally worth it (30 min car ride from Puerto Madrin)

Great

It takes a long ride to get there, but it was great. Lots of sea lions in a small cove. You are far away in a viewing area, but still good.

sea lions

about 40 minutes away by car from the center of Puerto Madryn. 40 minutes or soon a gravel road. You come across this oasis of wildlife.
There are toilets at the site, and while there is no entrance fee you can leave a donation.
You start of by lokking at a look out point where you see the sea lions below on a beach and then you can take a walk for about 5 minutes to see a more panoramic view of the sea lions.
You can spend up to a hour here to enjoy these sea lions.

Must go. Perfect for guests with reduced mobility. And a lot to see
Jan 2019 • Friends
We had a disabled friend with us. So our tour operator All-Peninsula Valdes told us that this place would be fully accessible for him to walk around since it also had an observation platform. It was good since we had the luck that a sea-lion baby was walking around the parking lot under the protection of the rangers. The toilets were a little away from the platform. At the time we came there were no big buses from the cruise ships around. The second platform needs 10-minutes-walk. It would be accessible, but it was too far away for our disabled friend. It was worth to go to see the sea lion colony from a different point of view.

If you dive, go for it.
If you don't you can still snorkel it.
I went with dive today (bucea hoy) and they provided excellent service and equipment.
Highly recommended

Huge number of sea-lions
Jan 2019 • Couples
1. Punta Loma (10 mi south of Puerto Madryn) for sea lions - this was really good. We were given 45 minutes here to watch the sea-lions in the bay below & do the boardwalk to next bay.
2. Playa El Doradillo (9 mi North) for whale watching from the beach, but nothing here except birds in early January.
At end of long pier from the ship, turn left & there's a taxi stand. The prices are marked & a girl takes your money & finds you a taxi. Punta Lomo & Doradillo were both US$50 for up to 4 people. Complete tour of Valdes Peninsula $250. This sounded like a good idea, but when we saw the video of the trip on the ship, it was pretty bleak & over really rough roads. A day in a taxi like that wouldn't have been brilliant.
