Although a 200km one way drive from the town and a lot of driving on a rough sand road, the trip is well worth it. In particular, the sea lions were most impressive. For tourists who have not visited other penguin colonies, penguin sightings are good.

But go without a guide! We rented a car in Puerto Madryn( we booked the cheapest Chevrolet, and that did the job fine, we did not need a 4wd), and drove there, the roads there is gravel, but easy to drive on, just drive slow, there is lots of animals on, and next to the road. We stayed in Puerto... More

... but go with a guide! If you feel the tours are too expensive, go early in the morning since the way out will take you 1 1/2 hours and roads in the park are gravel roads, so expect slow driving. The visitors çenter is well worth a visit.

Far from the exciting city life of Buenos Aires, Puerto Madryn has an excitement all its' own! It is well worth a trip(the flight is just about 1 1/2 hours) to this part of Argentina to see amazing wildlife. Definitely come during high season so you can witness the whales and calves, nesting Penguins, molting sea lions and elephant seals.....not... More

Definitely worth visiting! Just plan your trip well in accordance to what you want to see. As a quick note, this is one place where you should not cut corners when it comes to expenses. Pay for a tour, since there are no other ways to get around!

I visited in early November and was blown away by the experience. If visiting in the spring, be sure to go on a trip to see the Southern Right Whales. The mothers and calves come right up to the boat and remain there for 30 minutes or more. The water is very clear and you can see the whole whale.... More

The beauty of a day trip to Peninsula Valdes is the variety of wildlife you will see. It is true you will see more penguins in Punta Tombo, but in Peninsula Valdes you can see penguins, southern right whales and elephant seals (which was for me the highlight). You do not get very close to the wildlife so binoculars or... More

The coastline of this peninsula is inhabited by elephant seals, sea lions and fur seals. From the rocks above you have a great view over the colonies of these sea mammals.

People involved with tourism were helpful and friendly. Watched whales from the semi-submersible Yellow Submarine AND from a traditional boat. Drove a large portion of the peninsula, and while roads are not paved, they were passable. It is easy to see why UNESCO would choose this area for the World Heritage designation: the marine wildlife is amazing, and the rest... More
