Great free museum
Mar 2020
Excellent museum within walking distance of the port. Beautifu historic building, with excellent sea displays. the building is just beautiful, with narrow doorways, a fantastic staircase, and lovely floors. The man in the booth was very welcoming and we had to write where we were from in the visitors book, but the visit was free. Well worth the short walk from the port if you visit Puerto Madryn

Short walk from port

Nice small museum. Be aware: there are no English translations under the exhibits. You can get a brief English description of each floor at the front desk

Lovely little museum
Feb 2020
We had an easy gentle walk up to the museum although had to dodge traffic to cross the road to it. It is a lovely little building with a spiral staircase which will eventually take you up to the top floor with a good view. The exhibits are well set out with a giant squid in a glass case. Entry is free and after signing in we were handed a map of the rooms and exhibits. This museum is funded by donations and were were happy to leave a donation behind having had an enjoyable time there.

Sadly, it's closed on the weekends
Jan 2020
We really wanted to visit this museum, but it is not open on the weekends. Museums should be open on weekends for people who work during the week. We were very disappointed to miss it.

Interesting small museum
Jun 2019 • Family
Small museum in a beautiful historic home.
Lots of stairs- a bit difficult for very young and older visitors. Displays are very well done.
Staff spoke excellent English as well as Spanish. Staff was very knowledgeable and answered a lot of questions.

Nice Little Museum
Mar 2019 • Couples
This lovely 1925 restored house is a unique place for a mainly marine museum. Its three floors offer a number of displays, preserved specimens, art, and an interesting video. Be sure to see the giant squid! The circular staircase will bring you to the top of the tower for viewing the area. It is a small museum, free, and has lots of stairs. Ask for a floor plan to help you find your way around. Worth an hour if in the area and looking for something to do.

Worth a visit
Mar 2019 • Couples
As mentioned elsewhere, there is not really a lot to do in this town, but this museum is worth a visit on its merits. Set in an attractive historic building, entry is free. We looked like the only Brits who had signed the visitor log that day. We were provided with a floor plan guide in English, although all the wall script for the exhibits were in Spanish. Not really a problem as the artefacts whether flora fauna or otherwise were mainly self explanatory. We really enjoyed this, worth an hour at least, and the people were very helpful and friendly. Recommended.

Small, Free, So-So displays
Jan 2019 • Couples
In this town there is little to do. The museum which occupies an old historic house is within walking distance of the cruise ships. It is free and it includes nine small rooms of displays, the nicest item of which is the giant squid as seen in the photo. This is small city museum which tries hard but has little to work with.

Somewhat interesting, and free
Feb 2018 • Couples
Free museum that is a weird mish-mash of oceanography, wildlife and art. The architecture of the building might be the most interesting thing; you can climb to the tower for a view (not that Madryn is especially scenic). Also a good rest room stop if you are wondering around town.

Nicely presented marine museum in a noted period house.
Jan 2018 • Couples
We walked 1.7km up from our Hotel Gran Madryn to this 1925 home of Agustin Pujol. It was constructed our of European materials and proudly displayed on its present hill and donated by his ancestors to become this museum.
We climbed its circular stairway to the top viewpoint, then descended to each of its 3 floors to see the interesting display rooms; sea shell collection, Rhea chick with eggs, full size Rhea, Burrowing parrot, Colorado fox, Mara cavy rodent, hand woven wool with movie, Produce from the sea movie, Giant squid, and Pygmy whale.
There were ~20 other visitors in the hour that we wisely spent here, all at no charge!
