The number 1 in Travel and Adventure in Salta and the North of Argentina
Sep 2013
We have met Mr. Adolfo Del Castillo (Buby) three years ago when we were travelling around Salta, Cachi and Cafayate, to San Antonio de los Cobres and in the Quebrada de Humahuaca with an Argentinian travel agency. He was guiding a young French couple and they were very enthusiastic. As it was clear that the service given by our travel agency did not meet the normal standards, we asked for his business card. When three years later we had another possibility to travel in the Nord-west of Argentina we decided to contact Adolpho (called Buby) at his company Tropico y Puna. Although at a very first glance the adventurous travel looked slightly expensive, we can definitely state that the cost-quality is fantastic. The money that we paid was little compared to the first-class service that we received. We could hardly imagine what care Adolfo was giving to all possible details like security of the car, the careful driving under very difficult circumstances, potential health problems in the Puna, the elevation illness, drinking water, biscuits, nuts, dry fruit, possible picknic, regulations to travel with tourists, reservations of the adequate hotels on the trip and meals, etc. Adolfo was extraordinary knowledgeable about history, geology, horticulture, biology and other subjects. He has built up an enourmous experience in every detail of his travels around the whole Argentina and the neighbouring countries. He knows how animals are named in the Quechua language (the lingua Franca of South America) and he knows a lot about the local customs. We made a 7 days tour around Salta and in the Puna. We haven't regretted one single moment our decision. Adolfo was extremely careful not forgetting one single detail. This was extremely important when we crossed the highest mountain pass at 4890 meters amsl under wind speed conditions of 100km/h. During the whole journey Adolfo remained full attention to our questions and demands. He was not only our guide and driver, he became our very good friend. We spent 7 wonderful days exploring the Puna in the Salta and Jujuy Departments of Argentina. Unforgettable! Buby, we thank you very much. We highly recommend Adolfo De Castillo and Tropico & Puna for any touristic and adventurous travel in Argentina

Best choice of our trip to Argentina!

If you have the opportunity to hire Adolfo, do it. He worked with us to figure out the right itinerary before we arrived in Salta, and made lots of recommendations. He knows the Salta and Jujuy area so well-he seemed to have friends in every town where we stopped. He's also so knowledgeable about the history of the area-we were really impressed. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great tour and trip (cafayate, salta, purmamarca) and was always one step ahead, whether it was figuring out where we should eat lunch, reminding us to wear sunscreen and hats at the salt flats, or anticipating that there may be protesters blocking the route to the Jujuy airport (he had us leave with plenty of time and then took us a back route to make sure we made our flight). We made many interesting stops along the 5 days of driving that we wouldn't have known about on our own. Our time with Adolfo was one of the most remarkable trips we've been on.
