Spanish colonial at its best. Very clean and not touristy at all. It's pleasant to sit here and people watch. Most of the main musuems and churches in Salta are here or near the square. It is wise to choose your accommodation close to here. Many night markets in side streets of the square. Safe and good atmosphere.

Our hotel was not far from Plaza 9 de Julio and we decided to walk around it. There were a lot of people from various backgrounds: tourists, local kids, families, church goers...There were plenty of cafes to choose from, some nice stores selling good leather products, hotels etc. The Cathedral of Salta is right there as well. There is a... More

A quiet place to rest, read or take in the local life in Salta. Free wifi, drinking fountain, plenty of trees and many cafes all around the outside. The square livens up in the evenings, as do all things in this part of the world.

This is a lovely colonial square with the cathedral and many restaurants as well as the MAAM where the mummies are. We didn't try any of the restaurants so cannot comment. We were there on International Women's Day and there was a march going on. One of the marchers gave my wife a IWD brooch; that's the kind of place... More

A much nicer community atmosphere in this plaza than in other plazas in Argentina. Restaurants are great for people watching but have terrible service and food.

A good place to rest and enjoy the local scenery. Nothing fancy but calm. Restaurants nearby are a bit expensive, try to get out of the center for cheaper food

The main place of Salta is really beautiful, with dominant cathedral (really worth to see from inside!) and incredible museum MAAM. What is unfortunately a catastrophy, are (most of) the restaurants there. We tried few of them - of course you expect them to be a bit pricy, but if you for that even get really bad food, than it's... More

A lovely place where everything you need comes together. There are shops and lots of cafes where you can try their famous empanadas and take in the world as it walks past.
