This is a spectacular section of the falls that is named after a park ranger killed by poachers in the park in 1968. You can look down on the falls from near the end of the "upper circuit" trail and get great views from the middle of the "lower circuit" trail as well. Possibly the most spectacular sampling of the many falls. Nearby wildlife sightings on my trip included a large caiman lounging in the water near the top of the falls and many tegu lizards (see picts).

This vistapoint is located on the circuit superior (Upper Falls or Red line) walk on the Argentine side of the Iguazu Falls.
The point has been quoted in English as 'The last patrol' tribute point to Ranger Bernabe Mendez. The detail is as pictured in the attached photos including one sign in English.
I leave my main review to the Iguazu Falls listing

This is a big thunderous Fall that is appreciated looking upward from the lower trail and downward from the upper path. The stream from above seems so calm until it gets right to the edge with a huge steep drop. See all the falls in the park. They are all stunning.

All the waterfalls in Iguazu are magnificent. A word about Salto Bernabe Mendez however. This waterfall is dedicated to and named after a park ranger killed by poachers in 1968. He had dedicated his life to conserving and protecting Iguazu. When on April 14, 1968 he came upon a group of poachers, thought to be from Brazil, he confronted them and was rewarded by being shot. There is a plaque and poem in his honor. It is worth stopping an extra moment, reading the poem, and thinking about this great man and what a waste of life it was.

Salto Bernabe Mendez provides a greating viewing point over the 'smaller' waterfalls in the Iguazu national park. The falls are only 'small' when compared to the largest waterfall - Devil's throat or El Gargantum del Diablo. The amount of water flowing over them was enormous. Unfortunately when I was there, they were too enormous - creating a lot of spray, and hence obscuring some of the bases of the falls.

The wildlife was amazing - butterflies and birds the odd crazy little monkey. Caymans in the rivers simply loved it and will return.

This fall impressed me a lot, even it didn't look as huge as others, but nature around is fantastic. Birds are signing so beautiful, you feel like you are in heaven.

Every fall is different in Iguazu. You can spend your day just admiring the beauty of nature. The sound of the waterfall is so relaxing.

Salto Bernabe Mendez is an impressive display of various water over flows that flow on the Argentina side and one of the first views of the Iguzau Falls you get on the Brazil side.Impressive.
