I wouldn't characterize as a "must-go-and-see" museum. However if you are interested in natural history, this museum has a fairly substantial collection of stuff to sieve through. Given the limited budget museums get in Argentina, I think this is compensated by people that give all they have to make the best of what they are given to administer.

The citizens of San Rafael have put together a very special museum. I can't imagine the amount of work and hours they have put into this museum. It is larger than most museums I have seen in cities three times the size of San Rafael. It was a great stop between wineries!

On a rainy afternoon the museum is great place to poke around for half an hour or so. The staff are very friendly and there really is Megladon dung on display (first floor, lower shelf, glass cabinet). The museum is quite tired and dated but the entry fee is tiny, so have a quick look around before visiting the neighbouring craft stalls on the roadside nearby.

This is a wonderful little museum with a great range of fauna and archeology on display. No crowds and reasonable price too, about 40 US cents to enter. We walked there from the main town and were told by locals that was not so wise but, as we have always experienced in our 5 visits to Argentina, just kind and friendly people.

As an archaeologist and someone who has worked with museums I enjoyed this small but informative museum. Geology, archaeology, anthropology, paleontology are all subjects to be enjoyed here. The displays were well done aside from some that could have benefited from internal lighting, but that would require display upgrades that some museums just don't have the funds for. Bring your own toilet paper.
