My father and I scheduled three tours with Trout & Wine. The scheduling itself was quite easy and they were very flexible about the details. They were also very quick to respond. They also handles airport drop-off and pick-up and it was extremely efficient. The three tours were mountain trekking, flyfishing, and a wine tour. All three were fantastic. The mountain trekking was definitely challenging (i’m 47 and my father is 72) and the guide was eminently patient and helpful. He made a simple, yet delicious lunch for us on the descent and it was wonderful. The next day we dis flyfishing. It was a gorgeous day, the stream was beautiful, and we had an awesome day. I have experience fishing but zero experience flyfishing. The guide was as helpful as a human can be and coached and assisted constantly. I caught a half-dozen or so. My father is more experienced and caught far more. The fish are fairly small but that isn’t really the point of the day. It’s a stunningly beautiful place and the fishing is fun. The meal afterward was incredible as was the wine. On the final tour we visited several wineries. The facilities were very nice, the tours comprehensive and the pours were far more generous than in Napa. On all three tours the guides were what made it great. I highly recommend Trout and Wine.

We did the full day wine tour of the Uco Valley and loved every minute. We were picked up in the mini van and after collecting the other passengers there were 9 of us in total from Australia, USA and Germany. We went to 3 vineyards and had the most amazing lunch at the 3rd. Our first stop was at a family run vineyard called Familia Zaina and it was excellent. Very quirky and the wines were really good and cheap at around ARS15000 a bottle. Our 2nd stop was at Bodega Corazon del Sur and the winery was beautiful. It included a tour of the vines and the processing procedure. We got to taste straight from the vat and the wines were all lovely however higher end prices. Our 3rd stop was at Claroscuro Bodega de Arte and again the wines were excellent and really well priced. The included 3 course lunch was amazing (best tomahawk steak I’ve ever had) and the artwork in the winery was quirky. It was such a full day as we were picked up at 8.10am and dropped off at 6pm. Such a great day and well worth the money.

Trout and Wine tours were recommended by a friend who had used their services a couple of years ago when he was in Mendoza. The company organised everything for us from airport transfers to accommodation and day trips. The organisation and communication was seamless from start to finish. We particularly enjoyed the day in the Andes fishing for trout and the wine tasting day with degustation lunch. Drivers and guides were punctual, friendly and knowledgeable and they greatly enhanced our enjoyment of the activities. Based on our experiences we would not hesitate to recommend Trout and Wine.

We did the private tour Valle de Uco deluxe $260pp.

I think this is expensive for what you get, particularly given that you have to pay in US dollars rather than ARS.

The driver (Seba) and our guide (Flora) were fantastic and the car was very comfortable.

We were picked up at 9:15am from our hotel in Lujan and drove for around 1 hour 15 minutes to our first winery, Bodega La Virgilia, where we had a private tour with three wines (one white, one rosé and one red). This experience was excellent and very high end.

We then moved on to Bodega Piedra Negra where we had a group tour with two other couples and tasted four wines (one rosé, one white and two red). No water and a few breadsticks for accompaniment. Given that we had paid for a private wine tour, it felt slightly odd to be joining a group for this part of the trip.

Finally, we then drove to Claroscuro where we had a four course tasting lunch with four wines (one white, two red and a rosé). The food was quite average and unfortunately our tomahawk steak was overcooked (our only overcooked steak for the entirety of our two week trip in Argentina!).

We were then driven back to our hotel and arrived back just before 4pm.

Having looked online, Bodega La Virgilia charges ARS$13,000pp or USD $14 and a five course lunch at Claroscuro (bearing in mind we only had four courses) with wine pairing costs ARS$25,000pp or USD $26. I am waiting for Piedra Negra to confirm the cost of the wine tour and tasting, but assume in the region of ARS$15,000pp or USD $16.

The Trout and Wine website suggest that lunch will be at Bodega Monteviejo, or similar, which is more premium at ARS$50,000pp or USD $53, so our lunch was certainly not like for like and not premium.

I understand that you are paying for the ease of someone arranging a tour for you, along with having a driver wait and take you between each of the vineyards. However, I have just costed the trip from our hotel to Bodega La Virgilia on Uber and the cost is ARS$18,000 or USD$19 and it is very easy to pre book (pre booking on Uber costs an additional ARS$1,000 or USD$1 and we have used this for our other days in Mendoza with no issues). You can walk between Bodega La Virgilia and Piedra Negra (Google maps says 25 minute walk) and Piedra Negra to Claroscuro is ARS$2,200 or USD$2.50.

So all in all, I think you could do this trip yourself for USD $155 for two people, instead, we ended up paying $560 including a tip to the driver and guide. I would be happy to pay an additional $150 for the privilege, however, I just don’t think it was worth the additional USD $400.

Hi, I'm sorry this tour did not live up to expectations. You should have been served more wine at each winery and at Claraoscuro we always go with the 8-course option. I believe our office has been in touch with you regarding a partial refund. My sincere apologies. Just to clarify, a private tour means your own driver and guide. It does not mean exclusivity at each winery tasting. Very few wineries offer this (many just have one guide) and those that do charge accordingly and require a booking months in advance. We do ask the wineries to keep the numbers small and the tastings intimate. I must also take issue you with your costing. A 90km Uber lift to the first winery is a poor substitute for having a driver and guide on hand all day, on what is 200km circuit in a very isolated area. There is just no comparison. Also the idea of walking between wineries is just not practival because of distance, heat, alcohol and the tight schedule each winery demands. I admit, we need to improve this itinerary but the notion that you could have done the same for $155 US total is just not true.

As wineries visited can vary (when booking they will tell you the names), I’ll simply comment on Trout & Wine’s tour in general. Driver Osvaldo and guide Ricky picked us up right on time and we gathered more of our small group around town before heading to the Uco Valley. The large passenger van had comfortable seats and a/c. Ricky gave us a great overview of the area. He was funny and energetic. The wineries chosen for our day were great and it was a cross section of winery sizes and grape varieties. Everything was superb. One must keep in mind wine sampling is a marathon event! The tour company and its staff are top notch and tours are great value.

We had a fantastic time with Ricky on a private full day tour to Aconcagua, with a brief hike to the view point, and a barbecue lunch. Though not inexpensive (with a cash discount if paid in US dollars), we had individual attention to all of our questions and were able to go at our pace. Arranging everything was easy. Our guide’s knowledge of the geology we saw, as well as information about Mendoza, all shared in English, made this totally worth it for us! Thanks!

Trout and Wine arranged two great days for our family accommodating young children to grandparents. Our guide Frederico was exceptional. He was very attentive to the both young and old. He really did make your trip special.

We had the most incredible day in the Uco Valley - our guide, Clarita was incredibly knowledgeable and proud of Argentinian wine. We really bonded with our group and enjoyed the experience immensely. The day was capped off by a superb meal at the final winery with MORE wine. One of my favourite experiences by par. You are missing out if you don't go with Trout and Wine.

Everything was amazing, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and they picked us up in time. The wineries we visited were amazing and their wines were outstanding. The lunch was also perfect overlooking the Andes. I've recommended them to lots of friends and would 100% recommend to anyone else who's visiting Mendoza.

Ricci picked us up promptly and planned a great day out. For an overview of the region, he selected one small family producer, one larger winery of historic significance, and one winery owned and operated by a woman wine maker. At this last stop we enjoyed an elegant multi-course meal with wine pairings. Every stop had excellent onsite guides, delicious wine, and we learned so much about the region and wine making in Argentina. Working with the home office was super easy as emails were responded to quickly and all of my questions were answered. We were so impressed with this company we booked a second tour in the same week (Trout fishing on a ranch in the foothills of the Andes). That second tour was incredible as well. You will be in good hands with Trout and Wine. Thank you Ricci! If we are lucky enough to return we will reach out to Trout and Wine.
