This square is more of a tribute to the people of Chile for the help given to the inhabitants of Mendoza during the 1861 earthquake which devasted the city. The plaza has a fountain of dancing water. There is a sculpture that symbolizes the friendship between Argentina and Chile with depictions of both San Martín and O'Higgins. You can see the picture above. They are shaking their hands. The bushes include eucalyptus, roses and autochthonous trees.

The Plaza Republica de Chile is yet another beautiful park in the centre of Mendoza. The central fountain is elaborately decorated and there is plenty of green space for a picnic or ball sports etc.

It is a very pleasant place to relax with interesting monuments, benches to sit, areas to relax and for children to play. It seemed safe and we enjoyed it in spite of some signs of vandalism . It is one of the four main plazas of Mendoza.

One of the four smaller plazas that surround the central plaza, the Chile plaza is probably the least well maintained. The fountain appears to be derelict, but it's still a nice spot to rest, relax and people watch.

Recognising Argentina’s ties to Chile this small plaza has a beautiful waterfall and a good amount of seating. Nice place to have a quick stop in the Mendoza heat.

A pleasure to be able to walk about this lovely Plaza surrounded by and within with such Beautiful Trees. They have been perfectly placed and in return they must give back to the air of this city, Clean Air. To look across or down the surrounding sidewalk aisles of shaded sunlight is stunningly to behold, SO taken by locals as normal. I often see the relevance of trees to this city as somewhat akin to folks who live near a Beach, taken so much for granted. The Plaza notes the role the Irishman * O Higgins and San Martin * played in the Independence of both Chile and Argentina..note their overlapping hands on the Sword.

Of the four smaller plazas in central Mendoza, this is the most quiet. The mosaics on all the benches are in good shape and the fountain is likely on the renovation list soon. There’s no evidence of gardeners as the green spaces are not trimmed.

One of a number of Plazas in.this beautiful city. Being summer in February the fountain was not operating but then we have to realize that Mendoza relies on the Andes to exist, from which it gets its water. Beautiful trees and one in particular not being tallest was different. The lovely statute notes the relevance and significance of San Martin n The Irishman O'Higgan in the Independence of Chile and Argentina. .... note their hands joined over the swords.
