Gemstone of the Maipú, An Unforgettable Experience

We had a great time in this family owned winery. We learned a lot about the wine making from Laura, the daughter of the founder M. Angel A Mendoza. This superbly professional family are in search of the secret of wine for decades. (The founder formerly had worked in Trapiche and had established this winery about 30 years ago, I’ve heard) They are wine scientists and makers, and we’re deeply moved by their passion and thorough efforts;we felt like to take our hats off to. Also, the wine were superb. I wish I could buy to bring every dozen of wines and olive oil they’d made, which were surprisingly good. (What a pity that we’re from the opposite side). I highly recommend this winery for whoever loves wine. Also The kids loved this place. A True Gemstone in Maipú, Mendoza by Family Mendoza. :) Wish good luck for their business and the family.

Don't miss out on this small, family owned gem. If you like small, boutique wineries, this is a must stop while in Mendoza. We visited 14 wineries while in Mendoza and this was our #2 favorite. The tour is very interesting and educational, the owner's daughter is so personable and friendly. She arranged a fantastic tasting for us and we really liked their wines. We also purchased some of their olive oil. I wish we could have bought and shipped a case to us in the states but shipping from Mendoza is so expensive! Please go visit this vineyard and make sure you purchase one of their tasty wines!

Don't miss this place! It is run by a family that is hands on and brings their experience to life through the tour guide, Laura. It is very small so it gives you an entirely different feel than the larger wineries. Very intimate and personal. The tasting is wonderful with the added bonus of their olive oil. The wines are delicious. Bring some bubble wrap so you can take some home or drink it during the rest of your trip in Argentina. I brought home the olive oil to enjoy.

This is a very small vineyard/bodega that sells what it produces only at the winery. The owner is the former winemaker from Trapiche with over 20 years of experience. His very knowledgeable daughter gave three of us a personal tour and explained so much about how the grapes are pruned and the soils they grow in, what the various cycles of wine-growing are, what type of irrigation is used in this very dry place, what kinds of varietals are blended to produce their wines--very thorough but so interesting. And of course it was all followed by a sampling of wine and olive oil (also from the locale) in a little tasting cottage right in the middle of the vineyard. Their Pura Sangre (80% Malbec, 20% Cab) was delicious!

We really enjoyed the visit to this family owned winery! We came to Mendoza for the wine festival because we enjoy Malbec...during this tour not only did we get a great tour and tastings of fine Argentinian wines, but we also learned so much about the history of winemaking in Argentina. Laura was fantastic....such a unique winery run by a small family. The love the put into the winemaking is evident in the taste. We spent 2 days viaiting wineries on a tour and this by far was our favorite. (Walking tour through the vineyard...best to wear comfy shoes).

Laura took us on a great vineyard tour and explained their method of training vines, accessing water and harvesting grapes and olives. She was friendly and so knowledgeable! We enjoyed our wines, which are only sold at the winery. Excellent wine at good prices. This was the perfect way to start our wine tasting day!

Our private tour of 8 started our full day wine tour at Domaine St Diego and had a fantastic experience. The daughter of the owner was our guide for the entire visit to the vinery. She is actively involved in the wine and olive production so had intimate and first hand information to pass along.

This is a very small production winery that only sells their product locally to individuals and restaurants. The wine is excellent! The tour of the vineyard focuses on interesting details that allow for the production of a superior grape. All of the wineries depend on irrigation from the Andes rivers and it was fascinating to hear about the system by which water was allocated to the producers.

The tour includes a trip to the hill top lookout that offers excellent views of the vineyard. The tasting was a leisurely affair on a patio. Needless to say the group purchased six bottles of wine to savour on our return to our Mendoza hotel!

Domaine St Diego was the perfect first stop on our day tour that included Susana Balbo and Kaiken Winery. Mendoza Holidays organized our tour and I would recommend them highly.

Laura was absolutely amazing! She took us on a tour of the vineyard and taught us so many interesting tips about how they produce the best fruit for their wines. Even the winery owners we were traveling with were impressed. I wish we had more room in our suitcase to bring back more of their fabulous wines!

Terrific handcrafted, very small batch wines and olive oil; informative tour and tasting by owner's friendly, very interesting daughter. You can't get these wines anywhere else as they are all sold out locally; we wanted to buy them all.

In 2007, my wife and I visited Domaine St Diego and like most others were most impressed with both the site and terroir of the place. The family were most hospitable, knowledgeable and eager to impart information to their guests. about their mission, "to make great wine." We tasted, enjoyed, and even though we were from Australia and the logistics of getting wines back there, we went to the trouble of shipping some home.

Enter 2016. Coastal New South Wales. Dining with friends, also Argentine wine
lovers, we opened a bottle of 2005 Rose Elea - without any great expectation.
Here was a Sparkling Rose of great colour, depth, quality and flavour. A wine any Reims Champagne maker would give their eye teeth to produce. Still wonderfully spritzed after 11 years of sometimes incautious handling this is a wine crafted with love.

If you are privileged enough to get to Dom. St Diego, treasure the experience.
And if you take any wine home from Argentina, make it a bottle of Rose Elea.
Keep it a while, laid down flat. It will serve as an indelible reminder of your
visit - all those years on.
