The Ávila bookstore is a marvel for any lover of literature and historical bookstores. With origins dating back to the 18th century, it is a real pleasure to be able to walk among its shelves full of old books of all genres.
Without a doubt, a place that deserves a visit and a purchase.

La librería de Ávila is Buenos Aires oldest standing bookshop. Standing proud in a corner just across from Colegio Nacional. this establishment has been selling school text books and literary works since the late nineteenth century. It's surprisingly peaceful inside and the staff are very friendly. The bookshop is photographer friendly so do bring your camera!

I took my teenage girls downtown to visit this old bookstore who's owner was a friend of my father. It's a very beautiful place, specially for book-lovers, and you can get books in the "mesas de ofertas" for almost nothing. But the most interesting thing is that the owner, who was always in the business and truly loves it, tried his best to recover the original look of the old store. Not only that: he rescued it from being turned into a fast food shop. Not only the building irself has its story to tell, but also some of the more prominent characters of the revolutionary period frequented this bookstore, which was the "place to go" at that period when searching for information and new ideas from Europe. Better than many Museums!

Opposite the Iglesia San Ignacio there is a wonderful bookstore - the first in Buenos Aires opened in 1785, fantastic atmosphere!
