A nice surprise

I am usual skeptical about highly-rated, glitzy, popular restaurants and bars - because all too often, it turns out to be nothing more than 'emperor's-clothes' hype. Therefore, I had low expectations about Gran Bar Danzon. I am very glad that I went, as I was very pleasantly surprised - so much so that I ended up going back for dinner 3 times in just 10 days! Highlights for me was the egg mollet starter, which was perfect for a cold, rainy autumnal night: an absolutely soul-nourishing bowl of mushrooms, marinating in a delicious wine soup, with a poached egg on top (actually an egg mollett to be accurate), and crispy prosciutto to top it off with panache. This dish was perfectly executed and empathetically conceived. The hands-down best highlight for me was the spinach risotto, which I had twice. There couldn't have been a more masterful execution of what is a very difficult dish to pull off well. I've enjoyed many different types of risottos over the last 30 years in multiple countries (including Italy), but never came across this one as luxurious, rich and silky-smooth as this was. Also, I must say that the bar staff (I ate at the bar) were wonderful - extremely diligent in their attentiveness, which is not often the case in general (I mean, other places). So I really appreciated that also. My only grouchy reflection is that I am not a fan of the 'music' - it is great if you are 22 and like hanging out in nightclubs. It was pretty unbearable, and did not reflect that the fact that many clients there were, like me, over the age of 45. It would be way more subversive and cool to instead play classical music, for example. The food and decor are thoroughly elegant - so why not choose elegant music, rather than brain-dumbing cacophony? Anyway, all-in-all, I am very happy to have stumbled accidentally upon this place and recommend it - just bring your cacophony-drowning headphones to have the best experience!

This bar was one of the bars we went to as part of a “cocktail tour”. Fun and lively place, albeit pretty noisy due to a lot of people all in the same place as it is obviously very popular. We all had a fun time. Great energetic vibe and fun people watching.

We were recommended this restaurant as an upper end experience. Made a phone booking which they could not find when we arrived, so we ended up at a bar seat (not ideal) facing a wall of bottles. Average service by several too busy to care staff, great food, massive and expensive wine list, quite an expensive night out. Would we go back? Hmmmm

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant where we could have dinner and experience some interesting Argentinian wines. We ended up going to Gran Bar Danzon based on our web research. We hit it during happy hour one evening and the place was packed. Absolutely packed! Despite being a "local" establishment the hostess spoke excellent English and found a place for us at the back bar with an English speaking bartender who guided us through the menu and then proceeded to make some excellent wine recommendations.

The food was excellent and well presented...just off the upper tier of restaurants.

Unusually, Danzon has a large selection of wines by the glass which was what attracted us in the first place. Between my wife and I we tried 7 different local wines, all well chosen for us.

Overall, I would rate this an excellent experience. Be forewarned that the restaurant is extremely popular and prone to being crowded. I would recommend a reservation. The crowd looked to be young professionals and was, as you would expect, a bit boisterous. Expect to talk loudly to be heard by your dinner companions. Also please note that it is upstairs and the external signage is not super obvious. Go to the address and count on looking around a bit.

I booked a table for 4 in January . The place was nice and the food very good, but something went really, REALLY wrong with the service.

It started out ok, the waitress smiled as she brought us the menus and we ordered drinks. Then we ordered our food, which was tasty and well presented. We were recommended a "desgustacion", or sample dish of all desserts they had (which was also very good), but ridicoulosly took 50 minutes to arrive. If we would have been informed upon ordering about this, it would have been ok, but we weren't. Ater more than 45 minutes waiting, and when I went personally to the bar and said that if the dessert didn't come right then we didn't want it, they brought it to our table.

We didn't have a Buenos Aires mobile phone and wanted to call the hotel to ask them to send the car to pick us up later, since the dessert was taking so long, so one of us asked to please use a phone. Their answer was "is it VERY urgent?"....and when told "yes", they left to "conference" with someone else, I believe with the person in charge of the place. To make a long story short, they didn't let us make a call, and our taxi came and had to wait for us almost 1 1/2 hours.
Furthermore, when we ordered dessert we also ordered coffee and were asked if we wanted to have both at the same time, to which we answered yes. Needless to say, the coffee didn't arrive until 20 minutes after we had finished the degustacion and were waiting for the check.

I understand that something like this could (though it never did before) happen. But the attitude of the staff (both, waitress and person in charge) was completely unapologetic and very arrogant. I don't really know what went wrong. The food was good, but in a place like Buenos Aires, where there are MANY good restaurants, is the service that makes the difference. It's the first time ever that I didn't leave a tip. I really felt they didnt' deserve a penny. I cannot recommend this place to anybody, though their food is good and drinks better, their rude attitude isn't something I would put up with again. There are many other restaurants in BA with efficient and friendly staff that know how to treat customers.

In my first time at Gran Bar Danzon, we had a dinner in crowded place. We didn´t taste the best of this place. In this time, we were for happy hour, and it was the EXPERIENCE! The atmosphere was nice, the music - live jazz band - was fantastic!!! If you´ll want to upgrade it, you´ll can stay for dinner.

My husband and I came here for a late dinner our first night in BA. The atmosphere is cool although a tad cheesy (disco ball was a bit much). The cocktails were good, but the food was just ok...mediocre, I would say. I would recommend coming here to sit at the bar or in the lounge area for drinks and maybe a small plate, but definitely not a full meal.

Went there with 3 other people last Monday. Nice place, good food, but our waitress was incredibly rude. First I said there were 5 of us, then I realized I was wrong; we were already seated but she made us change tables. We ordered a bottle of champagne for 3, which arrived promptly, but the mojito the other person ordered took eons to arrive. When we asked, she said it was being fixed but the bartender was doing nothing. She never smiled and had a terrible attitude. When she brought the check, I paid cash but the change was never brought to our table. We went to the register and asked for it. They said she probably thought the change was her tip, but I replied that I wanted my change and then I'd decide how much I wanted to tip her. They called her and she spoke to us in a very loud, nasty tone of voice, saying she had kept the change as her tip. I told her my tips were directly related to the number of smiles and, since I hadn't seen any all night, I was going to give her 4 dollars (the bill was about 180 dollars). I can't believe they call that "service" and expect a good tip; there's no place in a restaurant for servers with an attitude and there are a million good bars in Buenos Aires.

We went there before dinner to have a drink and asked for two "caipirissimas"
( ron "caipirinhas") and a plate of cheeses, cooked ham and prosciutto. Everything was excellent. I have been many times, and also lived for a while in Brazil and the drinks were equal or better than the Brazilian ones. I asked who prepared the drinks and went to the bar to congratulate the barman for the well prepared cocktails. I even told him that they have nothing to envy to the Brazilian ones. He answered saying that he lived for many years in Praia Rosa, a vacation resort in the south of Brazil. This place have also a happy hour(2 drinks for the price of 1, but for the same customer). The delicatessen we had were that good and abundant that we skipped dinner. The place is located in a nice part of town and could be very romantic.Service was pretty good.
