The area

Address
Neighborhood: San Nicolás
Immersed in the sound of honking horns and the footsteps of busy office workers, the Microcentro area of San Nicolás is where visitors will encounter the true hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, walking down streets lined with office buildings and banks. The financial district is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere and unstoppable rhythm during office hours. After dark, the hubbub migrates to Corrientes Ave., where theater lovers might start their evening at a play and end it in one of the many traditional pizzerias nearby. During the day, Corrientes is known for its many bookshops and classic cafés, which are located just minutes away from some famous landmarks, like the Obelisco, Avenida 9 de Julio, and the Teatro Colon.

We booked the VIP tickets including dinner and transfers. The transfer was on time but by the time we had picked everyone up it was quite a lengthy journey to get to the theatre. Our champagne/aperitif on arrival didn't materialise and we were shown to our box that only provided a partial view, particularly of the musicians - I could only see one! In fairness, the dinner was good and we shared a Caesar Salad and Prawns, the prawns with a very nice guacamole base. We both opted for the fish of the day which was a white fish, tasty enough but the dressing was quite sweet, Puddings were very nice, we have a friend who would have loved them, but we are not pudding people so only tasted a small amount. The white wine which was an unoaked Chardonnay was drinkable and water and soft drinks were also included. We could have had as much wine as we wanted with our package. The show was somewhat contrived, we saw much better and passionate tango dancing on our cruise ship from Buenos Aires to Santiago and the orchestral numbers and the solo singers were overused for padding which just extended the evening unnecessarily. Why the performances weren't interspersed throughout the evening or the show starting earlier confounds me. As we didn't want the tango lesson, we were in our 'box' between just after 7.30pm until the show started at 10pm, by this time I had almost lost the will to Iive and the show didn't do a lot to help. If it wasn't for the fact that we were waiting for our transfer back to the hotel in a city we didn't know, I would have left and hailed a taxi. The transfer back took longer that the outward journey as there were another five people who joined our minibus who weren't on the outward journey and the driver couldn't find them initially, so we arrived back at out hotel at 12.30am. Due to the poorly dragged out evening, I couldn't recommend Teatro Astor Piazolla. A disappointing evening that could have been so much better!

Dear travelers, I wanted to share with you my experience in this beautiful place:
As for the attention of the staff, it was impeccable from the reception to our waitress who was attentive to us all the time and really demonstrated a very good vocation for service (she brought us more chimichurri and potatoes to finish my wife's plate). Everything What we ate was delicious (empanadas, chorizo steak, salad, dulce de leche parfait and mini chocolate cake with dulce de leche and vanilla ice cream).
Regarding the show, I thought it was excellent, for me it is a very good option for a traditional international tango show. The sextet sounded impeccable and the performances of the musicians and singers were sublime.
Regarding the choreographies, I found them all spectacular.
I thought it was great that they use the entire room for the choreographies and the singers' performances.
The building is very well maintained, it is one of the most beautiful theaters in Buenos Aires.
In general the experience was outstanding, if you have the possibility of living this experience you will not regret it.

We attended Teatro Astor for dinner and a tango show with the added bonus of a short class beforehand. The class was different and a fun way to start the experience, but if you would like to learn some actual tango moves you probably should book a 1:1 class. Dinner was a three course meal with red wine. The food was very good and the portion sizes were generous. I struggled to eat all 3 courses but my husband managed. The show was good and offered different styles of tango. It was really entertaining and as someone with very little experience of tango, I found it enjoyable to watch. They also offered a pick up and drop off service from your hotel which was nice. I would recommend.

We had tango lesson, dinner and enjoyed the show . I was excited about the lesson, but there were many people, we learned only some basics. I was expecting private lesson and learn more . But watching show after the lesson made me appreciate, admire it a lot more . Dancers so great , I wish I could dance like them 😍 hard work. We enjoyed limitless wine , steak was also good . Everything was amazing! They also do transfer from hotel and back, included to the price. Highly recommend!

The theater is beautiful and the initial tango class was fun. They were the only good things of the night. The food is poor, the meat is bad, the tango show was basic, emotionless and very short (only an hour), but the worst of all was the transportation they offer from the hotel. The van driver was in a bad mood and in a hurry. It was my wife's birthday and they brought a cake for congratulations, but when we were still eating the driver came in a hurry to leave, and when I got into the van and was still standing, the driver accelerated in a hurry and I even hit my head on the roof. . The disrespect is regrettable. I've been to Buenos Aires several times and this was by far the worst tango show I've ever been to.

Absolutely amazing! Went with an open mind but thought food & service would be poor and aimed at tourists but was pleasantly surprised. We had VIP seating and drinks and the tango lesson. We had great seats. The food was lovely! I had soup, spinach lasagna and chocolate mousse cake with lovely white wine. My Mum had salmon, steak & tiramisu and red wine. All were lovely and we are fussy foodies! The show was spectacular and the cast were all very talented. All in all thoroughly recommend. Maybe pre organize transport to and from the theatre as we were stranded trying to get a cab back after the show.

When we bought the tickets they say that includes the transportation between our hotel and the theater but .. after we were reconfirmed they left us waiting for one hour and a half until we finally get a cab to the theater. Then when we get there we don’t get any logic explanation of the “delay” and the worse part was the attitude that these guys had !!!!
We stay for not losing our money that includes transportation, dinner and show.

We wanted an old time tango experience. We were not disappointed. The theater was in the basement of an older building. Dinner was very good & so was the wine. They even gave us a tango lesson. The show was unbelievable. The entire evening was great. Highly recommend to everyone.

After deliberating on which Tango show to see while in Buenos Aires (there are tons of options) , I settled on Teatro Astor Piazzolla. We only did the theater part, not the dinner theater combo. After I made the reservation, they emailed me about a week later to ask what our hotel was, because the ticket was to include hotel pick up and drop off. I emailed back and asked if they could pick us up at a restaurant instead ( it would have been closer for them too) and they said no, but they would take us home. This took them over 3 weeks to answer this question from me. No big deal.
At the show, you could get free wine, but had to pay for water (what?) Whatever. The show was ok-- nothing special really. We asked where to go to get our ride home after the show and were told to go outside and look for our ride. There were people holding sings up with hotel names. I checked with ours, and he said I have you down for 2 people. There were 4 in our party. I told him no, we were 4 and he needed to take all of us. He said he wouldn't and became very rude. I went in to talk to the front desk person and he said " You never told us what hotel you were staying in, so we didn't know you had 4 people" WHAT?? That didn't even make sense. I told they guy that I had emailed them THAT DAY 2 x to make sure they had our hotel information for our return trip. He said wait here a moment-- disappeared for 10 minutes and never came back. We ended up getting our own uber. Considering they were supposed to pickus up and didn't and failed to solve the return trip debacle, it was a bit disappointing in how theyhandled it. There are SO many options in B.A. for a tango show-- I would recommend looking elsewhere.

I personally am not a dancer or even interested in the tango but wife is.....so we went to this nearby downtown show:
Started on time at 10 pm and lasted about 1 1/2 hours:
top quality traditional dancing, nice costumes, singing (in Spanish), and a live band, 8 musicians on stage.

***Here's how you do this show:
We were told the food was truly mediocre and way over priced show food and drink. Very True!
And all the hotels sell the package for $110 and up per person!!!!
Some over $200 for the dinner & show!!!!
A rip off for sure!!!!

SO here's what to do:
By taxi:
We went out for a fabulous delicious cozy dinner at 8 pm to El Mirasol in nearby Puerto Madero ($3-4 taxi). Best filet in town?
Huge salad, yummy potatoes & pumpkin:
Cost: $90 for 2 with local Malbec wine.
Then took a taxi again to 10 pm. show (which I had called and reserved:)
***Cost for show only= $30 each (420 pesos) on credit card.
So we paid $75 each total for the evening with really great food and the show.
Easy to do and there are many yummy restaurants in the harbor.
Show was only maybe half full so this is easy and safe to do; relaxed evening without being ripped off.
Taxi back to hotel. (35 pesos).
Have fun!
