The area
Neighborhood: Recoleta
Characterized by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighborhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centered on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.

Maybe they should change the name from "Design Mall" to something else. It's really and collection of stores that cater to things for the home--Carpeting, tiles, housewares, furniture, bathroom fixtures, etc. There are a handful of nice places to eat, and of all things--a Hard Rock Café!

We wandered through here after spending some time at the Recoleta street fair. Mostly we stumbled upon it while searching for an ATM machine. It's a series of shops selling different home goods, and there are restaurants here as well (including, strangely, a Hard Rock Cafe.) This place is massive. Ultimately we found an ATM near one of the restaurants, but sadly, it was out of cash. Apparently this is a very popular spot on weekends.

This is a strip mall located in Recoleta and there is really nothing to it.
There are some nice restaurants, a Starbucks and the Buenos Aires Hard Rock but other than that, nothing to see.
Lots of furniture stores, most of them which seemed unattractive.
It's clean and maybe nice to walk around but not very interesting.

It's next to the Recoleta cemetery and other than the eateries on the first floor, pretty much what's the in the basement is mostly furniture shops with the odd souvenir shop every now and then.

There isn't much there but we were hanging out in the basement cafe for a bit to wait for the hot sun to subside a little in the afternoon before heading over to the cemetery. But other than that, it isn't any shopping destination. There's more of a market outside on the way to the cemetery. At least they have more things outside to look at that's not furniture.

I was pleasantly surprised by BA Design Mall.

It's a small mall, located next to the Hard Rock in the outskirts of Recoleta.

The mall's focus is almost exclusively home goods (kitchen, furniture etc).

Almost as unusual as the mall's focus is that some of the stores actually have reasonably priced merchandise.

We purchased some leather place mats.

One of the stores had some unique, well designed and reasonably priced glasses that we didn't buy due to concerns re shipping.

I wouldn't make a special trip here, but if you're in Recoleta, and you have the time, it's an interesting 15-20 minute visit.

Went there for a visit to find gifts for family. It was hard to find small items worth buying. Prices are almost like back home in Europe. Many stores with almost the same nisch.

Don't give up the major sights in favor of going to this design mall, which is near the backside of Recoleta Cemetery.

To identify the entrance, just look for the Hard Rock Café, and go in the adjacent door.

The mall has bored employees on their cell phones. The merchandise includes sofas, lamps, mattresses, hot tubs, etc., but nothing innovative or worth a conversation.

There's only one store worth visiting. It's called "Morph," and it's way down at the end. It sells unique housewares that may or may not be made in Argentina. Unfortunately, most are totally impractical for bringing back home on a plane as a souvenir.

Who wants to lug home a dish drying rack or a lamp?!?

Liked the place because I like decoration so on, but its not that big, so in 45 minutes it's ready. Nearby Recolera Cemetary, so that's fine.

It used to see better times but even so, you can still stop for a refreshment or do some shopping on your visit to neighboring attractions.
Hard Rock Buenos Aires is located on its grounds.
