We visited the Tierra Negra cooking class in Dec-2019.

The cooking class is set in a very intimate setting. The lesson is conducted on the dining table of the hosts' home. It's a live lesson, so the chef prepares the food live. And the participants learn to make empanadas as well (prepare the dough, put in fillings etc).

The lessons were very informative and the hosts were extremely friendly. They explained very clearly during the lesson and also provided very useful background on how the empanadas evolved in Argentina. They also served a glass of local wine along with lunch.

We were joined by a family from Texas. The hosts made sure that everyone in the class was involved.

Veronica and Manuel also shared the recipes with us on email. We loved this activity and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for an informative and fun activity in Buenos Aires.

PS: We couldn't believe that we prepared such yummy empanadas. Can't wait to prepare and serve Argentina-style empanadas for a house party!

Took a cooking class when we arrived in Argentina, a few days prior to christmas., empanada making with Veronica and Manuel who own Tierra Negra Great, food and learned a lot about the Argentine culture. My wife and I enjoy traveling and cooking at home and have learned taking classes away home is not only educational, but a great way to spend time having lunch and dinner. It Is located in an apartment that has a great, comfortable set up. Better than any other class, I’ve taken about 25. Also in a great part of the city They limit amount of people so it is more than interactive and you can keep asking questions. Anyone going Argentina will realize empanadas are a staple there and eating ones you made is fantastic.

Manuel Is a passionate cook and Veronica is a sommelier who serves and pairs local wines.

I would highly recommend the classes. Don’t go to restaurants, taking great cooking classes and enjoy and learn.

We booked the Empanada Class as a fun way to celebrate a friend’s birthday and it did not disappoint. Victoria and Manuel were warm and welcoming and we had a great time preparing our lunch at their dining room table. They gave cultural and historical background to the food and the proper way to eat an empanada. They also explained the differences in the shapes which determines the ingredients. Wish we had had the inside information at the beginning if our trip!

Manuel was very organized and gave clear, concise instructions and it was so enjoyable to watch our husbands attempt to roll out “roundish” pastry. We made beef and caprese empanadas and they were the best empanadas we had during our trip which says a lot about what good teachers we had. Veronica gave us the interesting background to our “Liar’s” wine which fabulous (and organic) and paired so well with our food. They were also so thoughtful and provided and little postre with a candle for the birthday girl!

They emailed the recipes for the food and sauce that we made and we can’t wait to try to recreate our very tasty lunch

Fantastic empanada cooking class. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and explained everything in an easy to understand manner. Manuel explained about the different styles of empanadas in Argentina (based on the different regions) and told us what we would be doing and showed us how to make the fillings. We made the dough from scratch while Manuel finished up making the fillings. We then filled our dough rounds and they baked then for us. While we were waiting Veronica gave us a lot of good information about the wines and wine regions in Argentina plus we sampled a delicious white wine. The empanadas were then served with some more wine and turned out to be delicious. I hope I can do this well when I try to make them when I get home.

As flight crew I travel all over the world, taking cooking classes from various people, groups and schools. Verónica and Manuel's was absolutely one of the best. Their space was both impeccably clean and super stylish, the presentation was both easy to understand (in English) and informative with a lovely vintage map, used to highlight and illustrate the different regions of Argentina, the steps were explained and they were so patient with answering questions and repeating themselves when asked. The food we made (two different types of empanadas) and wine pairing was delicious. Above all else we were made to feel like we were very welcome! Would do again!

I first did a cooking class with Tierra Negra in Oct. 2014, in-person with a big group of friends on a visit to Buenos Aires. I have been raving about the empanadas since then, and so tried an online cooking class with my family today. Veronica and Manuel did a great job and their charisma translated as well onscreen as it did in person! The empanadas were delicious, although we missed the wine pairings! Highly recommend as a fun quarantine activity.

On our second day in Buenos Aires we took this informative, entertaining and delicious class. Not only did we have fun making empanadas, we learned a lot about the regions of Argentina, its wines and its beef. Veronica and Manuel are very personable and have set up a very comfortable and professional operation in their home. Our lunch of the empanadas we made, along with Torrontes wine, was alone worth the price of the class. This was definitely one of the best parts of our trip.

My daughter and I had an absolutely incredible time with Manuel and Veronica. They make you feel like family. The empanadas that we made were the best we had while in Buenos Aires. The dulce la leche was to die for. We learned about wines from different region of the country. I HIGHLY recommend this activity to anybody. It was worth it.

Wanting to do something different from just seeing the main sights, I decided to book a cooking class with Manuel and Veronica. Both were very gracious hosts and I had a great time.

We learned how to make tasty empanadas, flan and dulce de leche. To boot, Veronica also taught us about the wines from Argentina and we got to taste a few.

Overall, if you want something different to do, please put Tierra Negra Cooking Class on your list. You will not regret it. Manuela and Veronica are great company, extremely patient, and have a beautiful home where this class is held. I felt like I was in my own kitchen/dining room!

We had taken a class in Buenos Aires with Tierra Negra back in 2014. When I heard they were offering online classes I jumped on it, such a great self quarantine thing to do! We made empanadas today, a classic beef and a caprese. Very easy actually and delicious. Highly recommend. Taking a class on alfajores later this week.
