The area
Address
Neighborhood: San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

Bonus, no entry fee the day we went. Not sure if every Wednesday. They have modern abstract permanent collection along with the Sergio de Loof exhibit that was fun and whimsical take on recycled couture. Think Project Runway Unconventional Challenge with a bub
ble wrap gown. Surreal experience with tents and colors. Please go!

Interesting museum of modern art. Find it fascinating that every museum has an area closed (even in their permanent collections) just because. When asked when it will open, the answer is :maybe tomorrow). That said I always find it interesting to see the artists housed at museums.

The building is very cool looking too.

We visited this museum on a Wednesday and really enjoyed it. They have a small collection with some really interesting pieces. The dance exhibit on the lower level was very interesting. The first floor was closed on the day we visited. Admission was free the day we were here.

If you like modern art, but don't have all day, this museum is just enough to give you a taste. Interactive displays of the unusual use of textiles and the illusion of being underwater in a pool...what fun! There's also a nice cafe to grab a bite or drink and sit back for a spell.

The museum has an impeccable collection in an attractive building. The visit was a nice calm break in the midst of the buzzle of the lively San Telmo quarter. Lovely cafe, shop and great aircondition. Well worth a visit!

By happenstance we ended up at this friendly and accommodating
modern art gallery with a wonderful Picasso sketch show, This is Picasso's first
visit to Argentina accompanied by a super exhibition of Argentina's Antonio Berni.
Loved the place.
Please look at the photos for a touch of things to come.

3 stars above the unaccommodating MALBA.
No knapsack prejudice to tourists ... all off.

Thank you.

Fairly large museum with some decent permanent and temporary exhibitions. Not as good as MALBA and Bellas Artes in our opinion but still worth a visit.
