It stretches from Plaza de Mayo to Plaza de Congreso for circa two km. It is a nice walk that allows to see el Cabildo (in Plaza de Mayo), the famous Café Tortoni, a nice fountain at the intersection with Avenida 9 de Julio, and the Barolo Palace, before reaching the end on the north side in a nice green area with a view on Palacio de Congreso. There are also several restaurants and bars, also in the streets that crosses the avenida, making it a good place to plan lunch or dinner.

A street of many large beautiful buildings (likely mostly condos and apartments) of the 19th and early 20th century. Some sections have shops and restaurants. We walked it from Plaza de Mayo to the parliament buildings.

A portion of this Avenida is being narrowed by increasing more space for pedestrians and the parking of bikes. In the area currently being redeveloped, many shops are closed, possibly for redevelopment or to be reimagined. There are many historic buildings on the street.

This avenue connect Plaza de Mayo with Plaza Congreso, Casa Rosada with the Parliament. This is a piece of Madrid in Buenos Aires. Nice for a walk and drink a coffe in Cafe Tortoni

Strolling through the massive San Telmo market on a Sunday brought us to Avenida de Mayo section where we discovered La de Trini gluten free stall... OMG what a great place to discover if coeliac. The range of cakes and croissants and other savouring treats what’s fabulous. Trini herself was a lovely lady...some basic Spanish is required but I am sure simply pointing out what you want would suffice. Visit her stall or Facebook page Lo de Trini liner de gluten. Enjoy. This was an amazing historic parade of gauchos July, 16.
The gaucho has long been a symbol of deep national pride for Argentina. Home to more than 150,000 gauchos, it is the only country that harbours their traditional wholesome lifestyle; nomadic horsemen wearing a uniform of boleros, ponchos and leather boots who answer only to the surrounding land.
In the 18th Century, when Argentina was under European influence, the Portugese, Spanish and French traders provided contraband businesses selling hides and tallow. The gauchos would ride around the Pampas gathering free roaming cattle and wild horses to trade, covering lengthy distances, vast terrain and wildly opposing seasons. At the end of the century, business was successful and acres of land were acquired privately by the Europeans who had by then built a number of estancias (ranches). The role of the gaucho was that of a skilled horseman maintaining the cattle and the land and a vital part of the country’s economics.

In the 19th Century the gaucho became a hero in the War of Independence and the Argentine Civil War. Forming what was known as the Montaneras, these were essentially groups of rural born men from the Rio de la Plata region fighting against centralism of Buenos Aires.

Main street from Plaza de Mayo to Plaza del Congreso, with some nice sights along the way like Palacio Barolo. Lots of restaurants and lots of graffiti.

This is the most remarkable Avenue in all of the Capital city of Buenos Aires. The architecture is truly beautiful and lately many building facades are being wonderfully restored. The famous "Palacio Barolo" is on the 1300 block. Definitely bring a camera and take lots of pictures. The part of the Avenue closer to the Plaza de Mayo has a more European flavor and once you cross 9 de Julio, the Avenue has more of a mix of neoclassical styles of architecture. You can definitely plan a good half day of tourist activities on this one Avenue.....start with the tour of the Casa Rosada, then see the Cabildo Museum, have coffee at one of the many cafés, take the Palacio Barolo tour, then walk through the Plaza de los dos Congresos and finish with a tour of the Congreso Nacional. It's very ecclectic and urban so keep that in mind as well.

This avenue joins up 2 of the main plazas in the city and is filled with stunning buildings and would be a highlight for anyone who studies architecture.
