The May Pyramid was constructed in Plaza de Mayo in 1811 to celebrate the first anniversary of Argentina's May Revolution. It is Buenos Aires' oldest national monument. It wasn't originally in the plaza's center. It was moved there because of plans, now abandoned, to build a much larger monument around it!

The May Pyramid is centrally located in the Plaza de Mayo and celebrates the Revolution that commenced on the 25th May 1810 that finally overthrew the Spanish invaders in 1816 and opened up the new nations of South America. A good tribute and with the huge flagpole flying the Argentinian flag behind it, is a focal spot whilst in the Plaza.

The May Pyramid is a symbol of history and is located at the center of Plaza de Mayor. Landmark of the area and many tourists clustered around in order to take good photos on it. Recommended.

The Pirámide de Mayo, located at the Plaza de Mayo, is the oldest national monument in the City. Its construction was ordered in 1811 by the Primera Junta to celebrate the first anniversary of the May Revolution. When we visited, the monument was hidden behind shrouded scaffolding to undergo renovations. Not happy that I could not get a photo of this historic landmark. Rating based on it's existence and photos sighted.

At the center of the Plaza de Mayo stands the city's oldest national Monument, The Pyramid de Mayo. It was built in 1811 of concrete and bricks to commemorate the first anniversary of the May Revolution.
In 1856, the French sculptor Joseph Dubourdieu created a statue of Liberty, which was placed on top of the Monument.
The total height from the peak of the statue's Phrygian cap to the ground of the Monument is 61.5 feet. Years later, in 1912, after many modifications, it was moved 68.9 yards to the east to allow for a much larger monument to possibly be constructed.
TIP: Look for the painted white handkerchiefs on the floor, a symbol of the mothers of the Plaza de Mayo who demand the appearance of the children kidnapped during the military dictatorship.
