We turned up for the Sunday tour just outside the Pilar Church beside Recoleta cemetery. Despite the fact that there were only two of us Gabriel went ahead with the tour and brought us on a fantastic personalized trip around the Recoleta and the impressive mansions on Alvear Avenue. I can't recommend the tour enough. Gabriel was professional yet friendly... More

We took the cemetery tour with Gabriel and this is one of the best I have done. the guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable about Argentina and the history of the cemetery. it was obvious that so much research was done as very interesting anecdotes spiced up our interest in the place. we walked around the Recoleta... On an extremely hot Friday afternoon in January a group of us joined Buena Onda Free Tours for a walking tour of Recoleta Cemetery and the surrounding area. The group was arranged through our Cruise Critic Roll Call as we were all embarking on a cruise to Antarctica and South America the next day. Without a guide, Recoleta Cemetery would... More

My husband and I joined the Recoleta tour one Sunday and there were a total of four in the group. Our guide was very informative, friendly and good at answering questions. The tour was also at a very good pace. By comparison, we later went on Buenos Aires Free Tour's city tour on a different day and the group was... More

Caroline's English is effortless and fluid. Her knowledge of the Recoleta neighborhood, cemetery and Argentina in general is extensive and apparent. People not on our tour kept asking her where different graves were and with a friendly smile she would point them in the right direction. Din't get lost in this huge cemetery!

I found this tour very good. The guide was knowledgable and very friendly - it would be quite hard to find some of the more interesting tombs in the cemetery, without a local guide to show you the way. She told us the history of many and varied buildings in the cemetery and elsewhere as well, and spoke outstanding english.

Carolina was a wonderful and very informative guide! We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the Recoleta cemetery. She showed us some interesting mausoleums and told the stories and background behind them. After the cemetery, we walked to view some of the old palaces that are still standing today. All together it was almost 2 hours that Carolina spent touring with... More

We took the tour with Carolina on Nov 29th. Carolina gave an excellent 2.5 hour tour of the Recoleta cemetary and the mansions on the Recoleta neighborhood. We were lucky enough to be the only ones to go on the tour this Saturday afternoon and it was a lovely way to spend the time. Gabriel and Carolina were enthusiastic and informative, spoke excellent English and provided useful bitesize information for people like us who had very limited knowledge of Argentinian history. They are very down to earth... More

Staying in Recoleta

Neighborhood Profile
Recoleta
Characterized by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighborhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centered on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.
