Neighborhood: San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

If spending any amount of time in Buenos Aires and if in possession of the slightest interest in Argentinian wine please step into Vinatango in San Telmo.

There you will receive not only a warm welcome from the gorgeous and knowledgeable Juan and Anabel who are also fluent in English but you will also have the opportunity to taste and learn about their wide selecion of wines at their weekly wine tasting sessions which are gloriously accompanied by Juan´s vocal tango talents.

A great evening will be had by all.

We were introduced to this shop by our BA Cultural Concierge- Madi. We wanted to take home a sampling of the better wines we had tasted and didn't know where to start. This shop owner speaks fluent english (see earlier reviews) as did his assistant in the shop. Recommendations have been right on, based upon the ones we have now sampled upon return. I highly recommend if you want to take home some of Argentina's finer wines (which are quite good). His prices seemed very reasonable. Convenient location in an area of town you will want to see in any case.

This is a special little place in San Telmo that created a fantastic memory for me and my friends. Not only is it well-stocked with a deep and broad cross-section of regional wines, but its owner (and his charming mother) are very knowledgable about wines. By American standards, the prices are amazingly low for really high quality, but the attraction is not just the value -- it's the people you meet inside the store.

We visited VinoTango several times during our trip and were treated one Thursday night to a closed-door gathering with opened bottles and the owner sharing his considerable talents in Tango singing. He ended each song with a genuine and endearing laugh at the applause he was given by neighbors and friends. We met a lot of cool people there, including the owner's wife's best friend, with whom we went to dinner afterward.

VinoTango is a truly special store and I highly recommend this as a place to start -- or continue -- your experience with Argentine wines. Just make sure you plan to spend a little extra time there to become part of the family.

We were looking for some more wines to take home with us. We found this little shop in San Telmo, and we noticed the prices were much lower than shops around Av. Florida.

After we made our selection, we got a recommendation for lunch while the wines were packed. We came back to pick them up and all was great. Plan to visit upon our return to Buenos Aires!

I found this wine shop via Google Maps because I was short on time and needed to find a place nearby where I was staying. I was very lucky to find it, it's fantastic! It is a smaller shop (not too small though, there is still a large variety to choose from!). One thing to note is that although I really enjoy wine (a lot), I am not an expert. Juan, the owner, was very patient and understanding while answering my novice questions.

I'm from Chicago so we have access to a great deal of Argentinian wine; I wanted to find wine that was made in limited quantities and not found in the US. Juan spent a great deal of time with me reviewing several varietals that I could try.

I had a great experience here and can't wait to go back. I travel to BA frequently for work and will be stopping by every time. This shop has a great vibe and I highly recommend it.

Also, he helped me pack all of the wine in preparation to check it in as luggage. I added a little more padding when I got back to my hotel and it all made it back in one piece.

Stopped in looking for a couple bottles of wine to enjoy for the evening. The owner was extremely knowledgeable with his wine selection and steered me to two bottles that fit my needs. They were both spot on and very good, and the price was reasonable. A plus was the owner spoke very good English, which helped as my Spanish is poor.

Excellent place, not only to find the best selection of Argentine wine, but also to learn a lot about Argentina's wine culture. Juan, its owner, is knowledgeable and will help you find the perfect wine for every occasion.

Very nice shop, sophisticated, locked doors (can't blame them), the guy selling has to open the door for us, but once inside, small store but wide arrays of wine, Malbec wines if you may, from the cheapest to the most expensive one is on display. He was very knowledgeable about what they're selling, spoke English too, as he lived in NY for quite a bit. Anyways, we got some wines to go, got some good deals too, with some of his suggestions. Store appeared to be located in a sketchy area, but it's safe for tourist to stop by and buy Malbec wines, as this store is very close to the San Telmo Market. Would love to come back here and buy more wines...

The best wine shop in the capital, with the finest chocolates, too! Nothing is too much trouble for the English-speaking family who own this little jewel, with considered recommendations and friendly advice. Thank you for everything!

Juan's wine store, situated on the outer rim of Mercado de San Telmo, is enjoyed by locals and travellers alike. Juan, and his mother-in-law who also works in the store a few days a week, are very friendly and knowledgeable about wine, and it's always a pleasure to drop in and find some new wines to try.

Take the time to look around the shop and wait talk to Juan about what you want, he can suggest wine(s) for all levels of wine knowledge, price range, and taste (in castellano or english).

I highly recommend including at least one visit here on your itinerary!

PS - The pictures are a little misleading. They do organise wine tastings, but this is a shop, not a bar!
