As you come around the corner, you suddenly see this incredible site, wow ! Very little signage or information though, but we where free to explore and had we been brave (young) enough we could have walked along the top.

If you like history, stone construction, or just want to see something amazing, it's worth the short drive out of town. There are several spots where you can access the Aqueduct and walk along the top, as well as being able to walk among the arches at ground level. Stunning photo opportunities!!

This is the most impressive Aqueduct I have seen. 2KM from it's source you can climb up and walk along it.

OK--this is not a full day place but where else can you walk along a historic aqueduct (And take your life into your own hands)? It is just a few minutes out of downtown Tomar. We visited on a Sunday morning in January and had the aqueduct to ourselves. I'm a bit scared of heights so could only do a short walk but my wife did a long one---and you can do much longer if you like. It is also a pretty setting and good views--and free! So for a quick and unique stop--do it!

The fact that this is still standing as a testament of its builders and advanced thinking back them is amazing!
