On our way to “Alter do Chão”, we had a stop-over at the “Barragem de Castelo de Bode, who is located on the River Zêzere, the reservoir of the Castelo de Bode Dam is one of the largest in Portugal and extends over 60 km between the municipalities of Tomar, Abrantes, Sardoal and Ferreira do Zêzere. The reservoir offers excellent conditions for the practice of water sports or simply for leisure in contact with nature. Anyone who wants to get to know this large lake in detail can take a boat cruise, which will take them through the stunning landscapes of the corners of this reservoir, such as Ilha do Lombo, a piece of land where there is an inn, ideal for spending a few days in absolute tranquility. Very interesting location.

A lovely place to get in touch with nature, either by trekking or by any kind of nautical activity. Simple and entertaining in several spots around the dam.

There is so much to do and walk down to the river and swim or cruise up down the river. Great to get away form the beach and enjoy the country side and the river life

Went their mainly to kill some time but found it to be very nice and scenic with excellent swimming facilities within the lake. The beach was tiny and not very user-friendly however and parking limited. There is much more that could be done here to make it a great attraction but still was a pleasant way to get away from the summer heat and cool off

The dam itself is great and you must visit from it's top. Excellent view and magnitude of the construction.

Then all around the dam you have plenty of nautical activities places and hotels and resorts and small spots.
Plan a weekend to visit it all around... The nature, the water sports activities, the small river beaches. Very good to recharge batteries.

The dam perimeter is not few. So you must go by car and visit all around. Plan your trip with the help of the net (google it).

Near by, you also have the small village of Constância that deserves a visit too.

Also the near by castle of Almourol ! You must visit it as well. (I guess i already commented it in Trip Advisor as well).

just a dam ... and some river areas where you can take a shower. can be quiet (depending on the area) because in summer there are places with lots of people and lots of noise. nothing fascinating. nothing special.

The Castle of Bode Dam was constructed in 1951. The concrete structure is 402 metres wide and 115 metres tall, making it one of the tallest structures in Portugal. The Dam restricts the flow of the Zêzere River, creating the Castle of Bode lake. As well as supplying water to the 3 million residents of the Lisbon region, it also provides hydro-electric power.

A road runs over the top of the dam and provides a view of the pretty lake. Bu, other than the view of the lake, there isn't much more to the place. Worth a 10-minute stop if passing through.

Therer are 147 dames in Portugal. Over 40% oftheir energy come from hydrauelectric source. Once you visit Portugal it pays to visit at least one dame and this one is impressive. It creates an artificial lake of 33 square km.
