Since it’s free, it’s worth looking in to see the small collection of mostly Roman remains found locally. They’re well displayed and although there are no translations into any other language, you can work out what the exhibits are. The dates are in Roman numerals so can also be understood.

This is a very small museum which is not well advertised. We quietly tiptoed in as we thought that no one was about. Everything was written in Portuguese but you could work out the 'gist' of the exhibits. There is an upstairs where we bumped into a lady painting a canvas. It was very intriguing and only lasted a few minutes.

It does not take you long to walk around this small museum but on this visit I did enjoy reading about the story of the Bom Sucesso which a replica is sitting in the port area.

Not much better than the last time that I popped in here to have a look around, the person behind the desk did not seem interested, still no explanation of the exhibits in English but saying that upstairs was a exhibition of "cubism" which was in English.

Museu Municipal de Olhao has a small collection of mainly Roman artifacts together with maps and information about the history of the area; unfortunately all in Portuguese. Also has an art exhibition. Free entrance.

My title may sound like a little Brit on holiday but in all honesty it is a very good and interesting small museum which could be made accessible to many visitors by the inclusion of English or other languages in the descriptions.

Fortunately my wife understands some Latin and we worked our way through the exhibits on a cryptic crossword kind of basis. It would have been easier and told the stories in a much fuller way if a translation had been available.

It's free by the way.

This was a small museum that we encountered on our daily walk through the town. It was nice to pass the time and see old maritime from the area. If your around pop in as it's free.

Odd that in a nation where so many speak English and French that no-one has thought to translate ANYTHING espeacially since both nations have a hand in the town's past.
I fortunately can read Portuguese reasonably well and therefore found it fascinating.......I have been in Olhao umpteen times and really had no idea until last week of its history
Tempo para fazer um pouco de trabalho o município.....

Passed by, wasnt sure if it was open for the public or not, nit very inviting. I walked in...free. Plenty of traditional portugese handicrafts in show. Artifacts of the region at the time. Upstairs also with exhibits. Wished that information could have been in english or french, but not tourist friendly, such a shame. The only thing in English was indicating how cubism painting started in olhao. This town certainly has very much a north african architectual feel about it. There would be more visitors if info was in english or in french, and there was a tourist office available
