So glad I came across Classic Cats. Located at Vredenheim Wine Estate. Very informative with loads of different flavours and tastes to choose from. Never knew there are so many options. We had loads of fun. Definitely an option if you would like something else than wine.

Travelled over an hour only to find they’d gone home early. Heard rave reviews too bad we wasted over R1000 getting there

Hi Brett, I'm saddened to read your comment. I assume you tried to visit us yesterday (19/6)? We closed at 4pm as the lady who was on duty has the flu. I sent her home early as the farm was very quiet and our last tasting is at 4pm and at that stage there was nobody. I apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please email me quentin@classic-cats.co.za so that I can rectify the situation. Quentin

If you are a gin lover you definitely need to make some time to visit Classic Cats at Vredenheim. They have such a large variety of gins available that you may at first be overwhelmed by all the options. Luckily the staff are very knowledgeable and the gins are grouped into different categories helping you to find the one that matches your taste. You can do a tasting or you can just go for a old classic like a Gin&Tonic with a choice of standard or premium tonic. The drinks are beautifully presented and very tasty. We decided to sit at the bar area, but they also have an outside seating area on a big lawn, perfect for those lovely summer afternoons. Some of the gins are also available for purchase, and part of the Classic Cats appeal is the classic cars that they showcase that are also available to hire for special occasions.

We were there for a gin tasting rather than the classic cars, but the cars in their display area next to the Gin Bar looked very good indeed. We had a Premium Gin Tasting for two (one of us is a G&T fan), and were almost overawed by the wide choices from which we could select three each. Our selections were decanted into small tasting glasses neatly arrayed, with their names, on a small pallet each with a tonic flavour of our choice (from three), which we enjoyed outside under the trees. Our hosts explained the essentials of gin, and the roles played by the very varied botanicals, and we were then left to sample the gins neat - to appreciate the 'raw' differences first - then with small 'garnishes' of either lemon or orange zest, or one of two fruit sorts - blueberry and strawberry - and then with the mixers. Top marks for the professional presentation, and the whole ambiance. My only regret was that the small tasting glasses did not allow for much gin and mixer, so it meant very small sips with each addition or change to the 'mix', and there were no 'top ups' (of gin). I fully realize one has to draw the line somewhere, but to really appreciate any drink, one needs a half-decent mouthful each time to swill around a bit, and sadly there was not enough for that.

We popped in on a Saturday afternoon just to have a look around! Greeted by friendly staff, in a lovely atmosphere my rubber arm was twisted to taste some gin! Opting for the craft tasting the hostess had some lovely recommendations and we chose a few others from their fantastic array of locally craft gins. Sipping and tasting in the afternoon sun without feeling rushed - we had a splendid afternoon. Will definitely be visiting again and advising eeeeeveryone who likes cars, cats or gin to check it out! Thank you!
