If you are a lover of Pinotage then the L'Avenir Wine Estate is a definite must-visit. We visited for International Pinotage Day and enjoyed everything we tasted. The Pinotage Brut was a particular standout, offering a refreshing and bubbly twist on this classic South African grape. We started off with a wine tasting where we tasted different cultivars as well as different styles of Pinotage. Our waiter, Darren, was also very friendly and knowledgeable only adding to the entire experience. After tasting their wines, we decided to grab a bottle of Pinotage paired with a delicious cheese and charcuterie platter, while we enjoyed our surroundings. The estate itself is beautiful, with ample seating options including indoor and outdoor. We opted for a table on the lawn, enjoying the stunning views of the dam and vineyards. While there isn't a dedicated play area for the kids, the spacious lawn provided plenty of room for them to run around and explore, and the roaming roosters and ducks kept them thoroughly entertained. As an added bonus, if you enjoy some outdoor activity, there are boules available to play while sipping on your wine as well. If you're searching for great Pinotage and a tasty wine-tasting experience, the L'Avenir Wine Estate is a must-visit destination.

Peaceful tranquility and fantastic wine tasting. Excellent hospitality from Duane and Ryan. The single block Pinotage and Chenin Blanc were amazing. The Glenrose made from Pinotage is not only beautiful to drink but comes in a collector's item bottle with a glass cork. Lovely experience

We keep returning here and this time was our seventh visit since 1999. It is now owned by LaRoche Wines which i think go under a new name. Rooms are good, staff are lovely and very helpful and they have started doing simple lunches and dinners. We ate chicken and steak, and Bobotie on two evenings. The lady who makes the Bobotie is a delight! Swimming Pool could do with a repaint and I never understand why, with all the sun they normally have, they don't use sun heated water units as the pool can be very cold!

Slept here 2 nights, super nice place to stay, good service, nice rooms and a very nicely located terrace and pool. You can also do the wine tasting and we got a tour of the winery. How they make it, store it and the whole collection.
You can order the ĂĽber, so you can be in Stellenbosch, Franshhoek around the corner.

My daughter got married 25 September 2009 and months before booked a room at L'Avenir Country Lodge for her and her entourage on that date. She was informed that she has to pay R900 penalty to ensure that the room would be available for occupation any time on the 25th. When the bride and 3 bridesmaids with their dresses and all their baggage arrived at the Lodge at half past 8 am, she was informed that they were painting her room and that they could give her another room after 10 am. When she reminded them of the R900 penalty fee she was charged and that she then would not be paying them the R900 extra, the receptionist was very very rude to her, insisting that she'd better pay the extra R900 or she would not be welcome to their facility. She was crying at the time and was told by the receptionist to 'go wait anywhere and come back later' which she finally did. We arrived at 12 o'clock and she told me about the treatment she received, still being visibly upset about the incident. When I went to argue her case,I was given even worse treatment and was told we better pay the R900 or we would not be able to use the facility any longer. When I asked for an apology for my daughter, he refused to apologize to her. It was only after I told him that I know the owner personally and that I am going to lodge a personal complaint with him, that the receptionist became a little bit friendlier. Then he suddenly changed the extra charge to R600, which I paid, but no apology came forth, and I still feel the extra payment was unfair because all the arrangements with the make-up artist and hairdressers were delayed, everything was done hasty because of not the facility not being available as arranged and charged for.
I strongly do not recommend anybody to use this facility because of the outrageous, rude and cocky treatment we received.

I cannot recommend your picnic baskets to anybody as the quality of the contents is poor and not value for money at all !
The bottle of sparkling wine was excellent! Unfortunately a ciabatta bread roll which has been standing in the fridge overnight with ham and cheese was dried out ! The meat balls which also came out of the fridge were quite unappetizing. The basket was for 2 adults and therefore the little packets of Niknaks and peanuts were meant for little children. You could have done better with a variation of cheeses, biscuits, nuts and a warm quiche or chicken kebabs, etc. Please put a little more effort into your picnic baskets !!! EllenB

What a disaster! No parking available due to a bike race - which was being held the next day!! Picnic basket "valued" at R 580.00 is a complete mystery, as there is NO WAY that the poor quantity and quality of food came to this. We were also told that they were FULL (and therefore they could not honour our voucher), but the place half empty! Lousy service and not a manager in site. DONT GO THERE - as there are plenty of other wine estates in Stellenbosch who provide a better experience.

Wine tasting experience was an absolute disaster exacerbated by apathentic and disinterested staff.
Paid for a wine tasting (5 wines) for 2 persons which included a cheese platter, bread etc. plus a glass of wine each. Only got to taste 2 of the 5 wines as the staff completely ignored us despite numerous attempts to get some service. That was the last we saw of or tasted any more wine, therefore unable to comment on the overall wine experience.
When the cheese platter eventually arrived it had bearly enough cheese for a fledgling mouse and the few slices of bread were served frozen as in rock hard and minus 5 degrees. After pointing this out, the bread was promplty placed in a microwave and then served to us - giving new meaning to farm bread!
In all, a waste of money & ahorrible experience from quite the most unfriendly and rude staff we have ever encountered on the wine route in 30 years.
You have been warned!

We visited on a Sunday. Beautiful surroundings. Unfriendly snobby staff. We asked for the cheese platter and that was impossible, even though other people were having it. They rushed us through the winetasting in 15 mins. Potentially a top venue. Let us say there is potential to improve.... (we spent our wine budget elsewhere...)
