We booked a picnic today with friends and family. It was a 40 degree day in Stellenbosch and the team at Warrick were so well prepared. The food was fresh and timely with delicious flavours and the portions were very generous. The drinks were ice cold, ice buckets a plenty and the service team were an absolute delight. Working in 40 deg is a major challenge - yet the service team were upbeat, and fully committed to giving us a first class experience. An absolutely fabulous day out - delicious food, premium wines and ice cold bubbles. Our heartfelt thanks to Vuyo, Benny and a delightful lady - whose name we didn’t manage to get! Superb experience!

Booked one of the pods for a friends bridal shower and had the most magnificent day. Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to our pod, we decided that it was too much of a squeeze, only due to covid, taking into account our friends is getting married in 2 weeks and we did not want to take the chance.

Wilson who looked after us for the day found us a new pod and also set up a picnic area for us, he did this with a smile and never complained even though the temperature was 30 degrees in the shade!

The picnic basket was so fresh and tasty - you could taste the love that went into creating each and every menu item. Not to mention value for money.

Wilson continued to be so attentive throughout the day - even as we were getting more demanding as the MCC flowed.

Thank you Warwick and Wilson for an absolutely amazing day, not one aspect can I fault, which says a lot because I can be a bit of a Karen at times.

On a windy sunday in january we stopped in Warwick for a tasting and some food. Warwick is popular for picnics but it was not such a great weather. We did have an extended winetasting and you could order a charcuterie and vegan platter with it. So we did both. The Warwick wines are great, we knew that already, but still it was even better with the nice platters. So good choice for a stop. The service we had a lot better at other places but still worth it.

We came here 5 years ago and it was truly memorable. The setting is gorgeous and the picnic hamper was the best I’d ever had. It was faultless and the wine was also good.

So when we came back to Stellenbosch this was on the list to revisit. The staff were very helpful but it does seem that Warwick has become too commercially focused and with that much more expensive. The picnic was certainly not cheap this time and the quality, whilst good, it was not nearly as nice as previously. The wine also seemed to be much more expensive than other wineries which are better nearby. Overall it was rather disappointing and I would probably not return.

If you haven’t been here yet though, I do recommend booking a picnic with the rug and cushions overlooking the lake, simply for the scenery and relaxation. The wine tasting is optional on top and I would recommend going to Beyerskloof over this

My boyfriend booked us Valentine's picnic. We were extremely disappointed with the arrival at Warwick. A woman received us at the entrance of the building and informed us that we should please pay for our picnic basket and go eat it at home, seeing that they did not make any provision for rainy conditions.

We drove from far and wide to get the whole experience of Warwick's setting, we are very disappointed that Warwick did not at least call ahead of time to say that they could not accommodate picnics that day. So we had to drive all the way back and still pay the full price without receiving the experience advertised at Warwick.

My suggestion is that in the future Warwick at least let their booked customers know that they cannot accommodate them due to rain. This will leave the client with a choice.

An alternative is to pitch a tent on the grass so that customers can still enjoy their picnic at Warwick and not have to pay full price to be satisfied with takeaways.

So disappointing

The wine pairing took forever to arrive
When it did, the waitress barely described the wines and why they are special. Then you get 5 wines sitting in the warm weather - by the time we got to the MCC, it was so warm .

It is the same with the wine tasting - the waitress clearly didn’t care and barely described the wines. She also brought the red wine so much later - and poured them into the same glass she used for the white wines. We were like huh????

The platter tasted nice but our table was in the sun eventually and the butter started melting. We had to move the table ourselves because the waitress was nowhere to be found.

Very disappointing service and experience from what is otherwise a very good wine.

I’d like to see a response to this complaint that doesn’t say “thanks for the feedback, we will address the issue” my experience has already been ruined. I emailed you, no response.

Horrible service and customer service. the tasting was extremely disappointing.

I thought it was a nice idea to meet family and show my boyfriend who is Spanish the winery of my favorite wine in South Africa. I wish we went somewhere else.

1. Our waitress just told us the names of the wines and what grapes they are. No tasting notes mentioned at all. She didn’t seem very sure of what she was talking about either.
2. I requested alternatives to salmon and aubergine in advance before our booking, when I asked the waitress about it she had to go ask. They didn’t prepare any alternatives and the only alternative to the salmon they had was aubergine.. yum.
3. The table wasn’t set with cutlery, side plates or napkins (as we saw the other guests had), we had to ask for this. We only received napkins. No side plates, no cutlery. Not very sophisticated or pleasant to be eating the slippery and oily aubergine with your hands.
4. We sat in the sun, no one offered to open an umbrella or move us…even after we asked for the umbrella.
5. When it came to payment, the waitress wasn’t informed that we paid for the tasting, she had to go check with the front desk.
6. Service was horrible, we waited for things that we shouldn’t have even had to have asked for.

My adult son visiting from Canada, my husband, and I had travelled to the Wine area of Stellenbosch to take in a few Wine Estates. My South African son-in-law had always spoken of his live for Warwick red wines, so we headed to this Estate just after noon time with the intentions of tasting their wine & having a bit of lunch. Upon arrival, when it was explained that they serve a “picnic lunch” out in the vast green grass area — we had to do a complete mind switch. Relax! Have a picnic! Devote the next 2 hours to just eating & drinking & relaxing & talking & enjoying live! We went for it, even though our task-focused minds “wandered” exactly what we had ordered!? Between the 3 of us, we had two baskets and it was pure delight seeing all of the variety of cheeses, breads, salads, spreads, hummus, pesto, dessert in the baskets. We felt our adult hard shells crack, and we became relaxed children enjoying the Warwick picnic lunch afternoon. A definite must experience.

Choosing the "right" wineries for a self-organized wine tasting is quite elaborate. We are glad that we saved this winery for the last day. Between checkout and drive to the airport we booked a picnic. Upon our arrival, a lovingly arranged place bearing our name was already ready under umbrellas on the lake with a small table that was hardly enough for the tons of delicacies served up.
Some claim that at the equivalent of 45,-€ for two, the picnic is high-priced. Here you should remember that you can spend the whole day on your covered place on the meadow by the lake and read and enjoy this delicious food. For us it was the perfect thing to do before heading to the airport, but also as part of a winery tour it is our absolute tip. It's definitely worth the price.

This was our second visit to Warwick Wine Estate - the 1st of which was during our honeymoon 8 years ago. Warwick continues to be one of our favourite wine brands so we were excited to return and added the gourmet picnic experience to our booking.

The wine estate is picturesque - a little outside of Stellenbosch but a quite riverside location set out with picnic blamkets and picnic benches to enjoy the views. We were greeted by one of the staff when we arrived, shown to our picnic bench and given the picnic and wine tasting menus.
The picnic arrived about 30 mins later - a variety of breads, pates, sandwiches, salads and deserts which was more than enough for 2 people. We each did a different wine tasting experience which allowed us to taste everything on offer and then tried the Trilogy 'Guess the vintage' challenge as this is our favourite wine.

So glad we returned to Warwick and would continue to recommend it to anyone visiting the area, particulary since the picnic concept still seems to be quite rare. Not sure we would return again on our next trip though... while the wines are good, Trilogy is outstanding and a constant staple of our home wine cabinet so unless their Cab Franc returns to their shelves not sure there is anything more for us to experience at Warwick.

Dear Jacqui, You would have seen my reply via Dineplan already. Please make sure to subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date of any future Cabernet Franc releases. We are active planting more vineyards to supply the demand. Thank you for visiting again.
