I visited the museum today and accidentally entered through the side gate (picture attached), as there was no sign indicating it wasn't an entrance. The staff member, Michlynn, whom I expected to greet and welcome us, instead reprimanded us like children. I was appalled and disgusted. The whole situation felt surreal. I believe that museums are struggling with visitor numbers in the face of fierce competition for people's attention, and I can't believe that willing patrons would be treated with such animosity and inhospitable attitudes. The museum itself is a well-preserved treasure of historical architecture in this town, but with such unfriendly staff who treat people with disrespect, I must admit that I will never again set foot on their property and will no longer recommend that anyone does. The people on the many nearby wine farms are so friendly and welcoming, and I will rather spend my money there and give them my support.

An amazing well-curated museum that capsulizes the historical timeline of the town – and sets you back on a journey of discovery. Aside from the main museum building, there are four well-preserved homes that give visitors a glimpse of what life was like in the early days of the settlers. This is a must visit when new to the area –transporting you in a time machine.

Includes 3 lovingly restores, refurbished homes of 3 different colonial Dutch families. Each home is staffed by an "in character" woman who provides background and answers any questions. As a History lover, I really enjoyed this time capsue experience as I have a very high regard for what these settlers did for South Africa. A highly recommended hour or so whilst visiting the winelands.

This museum is actually 4 houses that each have their own story and greeter who gives a brief history of the home and the family who lived there. Also had a special exhibit on fires in Stellenbosch that was very interesting. Recommend it highly.

The museum is in the middle of StellenBosch. You need to pay inorder to get the parking. The parking is usually free on weekends. On a weekend I went there and a guy came to me immediately asking me to go to a nearby ATM to get the parking ticket. When I used my credit card it got stuck in the machine and I was robbed of some 1500USD.Didnot even visit the museum afterwards.Just be aware and DO NOT use any ATM machines nearby specially on weekends.

We enjoyed going through the 4 houses which comprise the Village Museum. The ladies in attendance in period costume were interesting and we enjoyed seeing how the middle class have lived over the past few hundred years in Stellenbosch. Learning about slavery in the Cape was also interesting

If you're a history lover, you must take the time to visit this place. It will take you about an hour. It's a walking distance from city centre, right on one of the main streets. The lady guides at each of the four houses, dressed in period clothing, are full of information and interesting facts. Don't hesitate to ask them questions. They are all very polite, friendly and welcoming. The museum is kept well and as much as possible to the original settings. It's also suitable for young children.

The Mueum consists of 4 houses furnished in the style consistent with various periods in the deevelopment of Stellenbosch which is one of the oldest towns in South Africa as well as being one of its biggest University towns ( first heart transplant was carried out there)
There are 4 houses show the styles of 1700, 1775, 1800 and 1850 respectively. In the latter 3 you have a guide who explains the background to the houses and the people who lived in them.
All 4 are completely furnished aand ,of course, get grander and grander as the years pass and the town prospered.
