Thoroughly enjoyed our day on a really beautiful couse surrounded by magnificent scenery. Course condition was great and the reception and book in process flawless and very pleasant.
Lunch after golf was equally enjoyable with really good well prepared food and a good wine list.

Stellenbosch Golf Club has a good reputation as a golf club and according to their promotional material, has been the location for a number of important tour events.

Having played there, I can confirm that the course is difficult and a challenge, but the quality of the course is a bit of a let down.

First of all the course is next to very busy streets, meaning that you're playing in the continuous noise and exhaust gases of the numerous cars and bakkies.

Secondly, the maintenance was not what it should be, IMHO. The fairways and greens were OK, but what should have been (semi) rough was mostly reduced to sandy areas with lots of stones without any grass.

I don't think I'll come back to play here again, there are more beautiful and better courses nearby.

The drought in the region makes this course probably more boring then in normal circumstances. Holes 7, 8 and 9 are a bit more creative then the rest. The greens and surrounding areas are in good condition.

Good organisation for taking orders for the halfway house and good quality as well.

Hi HansenGeert, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us a review. The whole Cape is struggling with the drought, however we are doing what we can to keep the course in the best possible condition. Holes 7,8 & 9 are a great finish to the front 9. We hope to welcome you back again in the near future. Regards Stellenbosch GC

I play many golf courses in the Western Cape and can truly say that the condition of this course is outstanding. Coupled with that is a well stocked proshop and then - the hidden gem of the winelands - their restaurant.
The locals keep this to themselves and you can understand why. Outstanding food at affordable prices and the best views you can hope for. And then an award winning winelist.
Drive from wherever you are in the Western Cape and make a day of it. Golf and then a meal. You will come back for more!

Don't bother...this is a less than mediocre course in dreadful condition, overpriced, unfriendly staff...nothing would encourage us to go back...worst course we have played in SA so far.

Most golf courses in South Africa also run a restaurant in the clubhouse. Some of those restaurants are decent, some not so and a few are simply GOOD.
When a couple of years ago, ‘Stellenbosch Golf Club’ took the step to install a real Italian pizza oven, that was the start of something good. Whatever your opinion about a pizza, when made as they should, most of us do like them. And it is great when you finish your round of golf, to enjoy a really, really good one at ‘Stellenbosch’.
But that is not all. On a golf course you really do not expect all the other great choices that are on offer here from the menu. What can I say about a delicious ‘Cajun Spiced Chicken Salad with Avocado’. Truly delicious, spicy and mouthwatering. But when Robert, the well known member of the friendly staff, surprises you with a ‘Norwegian Smoked Salmon and Prawn Salad’, you all of a sudden find yourself in culinary heaven. Sumptuous! On a Golf Course??? Just look at the photos.
Apart from all that, the restaurant offers a balcony at the first floor of the clubhouse. Here you sit, overlooking the golf course. Lots of activities in front of your very eyes. And a truly beautiful view of the surroundings and the mountain range on your left.
We are told that even people that don’t play golf (they do exist?) come here to enjoy the atmosphere….. and definitely the food.

Dear Golf- Fritz, Wow, We are so glad you and the many other friend enjoy not only a round of golf at Stellenbosch GC but the special menu our chef has put together. One of the big reasons I struggle with my weight it because of the delicious food on offer and paired with a nice glass / bottle of wine, what more could one ask for. We really appreciate the beautiful words and look forward to welcoming you back soon soon to enjoy our brand new menu that we have just lunched! All the best, Louis

We arrived after booking online to find no tee time but not to worry we could play anyway! Told we would have to wait for a buggy as they were still out from the morning. Had to pay full rate not what was quoted online. Had to wait basically in a queue for a buggy and one arrived approximately 20 minutes after our original tee time. Told numerous times this never happened before but due to more seniors turning up in the morning it threw everything, on looking at other reviews this is clearly not true. The course was in very poor condition, the t boxes very scabby and the fairways in places bare! They made no mention of the work taking place on the course, there were diggers and dust on at least two holes. We started at the tenth so finally getting to the first, we waited to tee off - the pace of play was awful. Anyway long story short a German member at the club arrived and basically barked at me that he was next and that we were teeing off out of turn as he had been following the people in front. This was not the case, my husband and I had followed this group for 9 holes - he was very aggressive with me and in effect called me a liar - so he teed off with his group in front of us. We had to cut short our round as we ran out of time. Would I recommend stellenbosch golf club not on your life it was truly a horrid experience from start to end!

Dear Yvette, Sad to hear about your experience at Stellenbosch GC, we always go out of our way to make every golfers experience memorable here. Unfortunately I don't know to what online booking system you are revering to, I am glad that we could accommodate you in the end. Historically February has always been a very busy month on all courses in the area. On the course, I must say that we are receiving far more positive feedback than negative. A decision was taken to focus on the greens and surrounding areas, as we feel this is the most importuned area to golfers. As you may or may not be aware, the Western Cape is experiencing a serious drought at the moment. That is then also the reason we are enlarging the dam on the 16th hole that you are revering to. We did have notices up all over the club regarding the work. (a dam unfortunately can only be built in summer) It does sadden me to hear about the behavior of the other golfers on the course that made the day even worse! I would like to apologizes for all that you went through and can promise you this is not what we want our guest to experience. I would love you to please come and visit us again as my guest so I can show you what a wonderful experience you can have at Stellenbosch GC. Regards, Louis Destroo

Great atmosphere around the club house, and wonderful layout of the golf course.

The greens were in excellent condition and we had great fun.

Due to water restrictions, the fairway was a bit brown

We did play with 3 caddies and they were all good!:)
