    Art for all
Lovely place to visit when in Stellenbosch. See different art works - some new some old. If you love art give yourself enough time to appreciate every item. There is a small place to have something to eat / drink and no entry fee is charged. The Johannesburg Railway Station Panels from Pierneef is a permanent exhibition.

    Just lovely
This modern museum on the outskirts of Stellenbosch is a delight. We spent a fascinating morning there. A lot of South African art, well laid out, and beautifully displayed. From imposing William Kentridge pieces, to a fascinating ballet shoe and life series from Steven Katz. The old drawings from the Johannesburg railway display depict scenes from across the country and are well laid out. A small garden and coffee shop. A highlight of a visit to Stellenbosch

An Art museum to be visited
a truly well curated set of exhibitions, ranging from old to new, oil to photography, nature to portraits, a wide variety of exhibitions. The main object was to see the Pierneef station panels, a must see. The installation art and other forms wre a added bonus. Beautiful museum, well maintained. Friendly staff welcoming you and assisting with any enquiries.

This beautiful, whitewashed Cape Dutch inspired building set in a vineyard which was custom designed and built by Huberte Rupert to house some of the Rupert family's treasures, showcases an art collection which is probably the most impressive private collection of SA art around. Pieces include the family's vast Irma Stern collection, as well as other SA masters such as Anton van Wouw, Maggie Loubser, Pierneef and regular exhibitions of their other artworks, such as Rodin sculptures, which seem to be moved around the world. If you're an art lover or simply getting to know South Africa's art heritage better, then do visit this very classy, inviting space. Its an inspiring place to be and one which I visit a few times a year.

Take your time to enjoy the amazing paintings. The museum is fairly quiet which makes it possible to really enjoy the art.

I came back to study the highly designed Pierneff paintings again. The construct of all of his paintings is very impressive as well as the mostly cool pallet. I am drawn to the Irma Stern paintings also because of the raw but powerful figures and still lifes. The white stucco barn like building is also a very impressive domicile for the paintings.

This purpose built museum was quite difficult to find but we are so pleased we made the effort to look for it. One doesn't need long ( an hour is enough) to go through the 3 halls and it is an excellent stop before or after going to the Wine Estates of either or both of Stellenbosch and Franschoek .

The Pierneef Station panels gives one an extraordinary insight into the artist and the collections of other well known artists make it a worthwhile trip.

I was blown away by the amazing bronze sculptures of Anton van Wough

We went to the Rupert Museum to fill in time on a rainy morning and were quite astounded. ALL the Pierneef paintings (32) that he was commissioned to paint for Jo'burg station were on display. There were many Anton van Wouw sculptures, a couple of dozen Irma Stern paintings and lots of works by other well known South African artists. A surprisingly cheap entrance fee, helpful staff and spacious well-designed displays completed the good experience.

If you haven't been to the Rupert Museum to have a look at the Pierneef Johannesburg Railway Station panels then you have to plan a trip to the museum ASAP. I would count these works as one of the most important in South African Art. Created between 1929 and 1932 it is possibly the best work ever created by Pierneef. South African Art lovers absolutely have to see this exhibition. International tourist with an interest in art will also love the art on display.

Thouroghly enjoyed the Rupert, it had a wide array of art to suit a few tastes, and the Johannesburg station collection were breathtaking, some of my favourite art I've ever seen. Haven't stopped thinking about them! Well worth a visit!

The Rupert Museum was since years a hidden gem at the outskirts of Stellenbosch. In recent months it underwent a major renovation and extension and is now even more beautiful and attractive. The impressive art collection of mostly South African artists from Irma Stern, Pierneff up to William Kentridge blends perfectly to the stunning architecture.
You find now even a well stocked arts library and a coffeeshop in the Museum.
A must for art lovers!
