I booked 2 days of guided mountain biking with Cape Velo at very short notice based on nothing more than a google search, as I had a couple of days in Cape Town. Jamie and Lucie replied straight away and sorted me out quickly and efficiently with a brilliant hire bike, an equally capable guide in Josh and accommodation recommendations. The only limitation was my lack of skill as we explored the vast amount of trails in the stunning countryside around Stellenbosch. Josh was quick to adapt the routes and riding to my needs, while encouraging me to ride stuff I’d perhaps otherwise not attempt. Whilst the guiding may seem expensive, their local knowledge is invaluable when it comes to getting the most quality riding out of a short trip, and is worth it just for the time saved in finding the best trails. Lunch at a vineyard in the sun is tough to beat, although resisting the urge to try a bottle or two was difficult! I can’t recommend Cape Velo highly enough, and I’ll be back as soon as I can.

Me and my wife did a gravel ride in Stellenbosch en Jonkershoek. Great ride with nice views. Before we left Jamie asked about our wishes and he adjusted the ride to our needs. Perfect service! We had a blast.

I had a day riding with Jamie from Cape Velo in mid-February and cannot recommend highly enough the whole experience. Whilst you might opt for a rental-only I would definitely go for the guided ride with Jamie. The area around Stellenbosch offers some amazing gravel riding trails but I would have struggled to find them without Jamie's local knowledge. For once it was nice to sit back and follow someone who knew the local terrain, you don't want to be navigating in this area, you want to be drinking in the views! The rental bike was top notch - current model year Specialized Diverge - in perfect condition with tubeless set up (just how I like it). Jamie too care of everything, supplying energy bars, drinks and the rest. You really can just turn up and ride. I took my own pedals which was my own choice but Cape Velo offers a selection too. Jamie caters to all abilities and interests, is astute at gauging the needs and abilities of all riders. If you want to push it a little (up or down....) he will oblige. The area itself is simply stunning with some great climbs, amazing scenery and a massive selection of cool cafes and coffee shops to drop in on. A huge thanks to Jamie and Lucie for the personalised attention and a once in a lifetime experience (....hoping it's not a once off personally!).
