Having experienced the Great Ocean Road in Australia, Highway 1 on the West Coast of America I expected something similar in SA but not so. Rather than a road trip with fantastic views it is a collection of towns stretching from Mossel Bay until Port Elizabeth. I think the SA Tourist Board will regret not making more of the sights... One cannot describe the beauty of the Garden route or the Tsiktsikamma woods. The Storms river mouth and the surrounding area, one side the sea with wild waves on the rocks and calm on the sand. Turn around and this majestic mountain folds it"s arms around you! You must see it to believe the real feeling

There are few words that can describe the beauty of the Garden route and the tsiktsikamma. It is a must-do for all self-drive enthusiasts. The Storms river mouth and the Tsiksikamma reserve are a must-do.

The Garden Route (and Route 62) provide the best and most efficient opportunity to explore the best of South Africa if you only have a few weeks in this beautiful country (as a first time explorer). This route provides wine country, beaches, ostrich farms, country farms, Addo Elephant Park, private Big 5 safaris, scenic mountains, great oysters (Knysna), adventure activities,... More

Going on Garden route was our best decision for spending 3 weeks on the road, stopping for photos, activities, etc. We start from Cape town and finish at Port Elizabeth. Very good road, excellent maintenance, clean, arranged. Absolutely enjoyment to drive and look at the amazing view around. Highly recommended for everybody.

Spent a 4-day weekend in a cosy forest hut with bathroom - convenient - inside the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp. At night one could hear the blissful sound of the ocean rolling in the distance. The main purpose of our stay was to attend a special wedding held within this serene setting. The camp has an interesting-shaped swimming pool,... More
