This past Saturday we celebrated our anniversary and were hoping to include a cheese board and glass of Viognier at Eagles Nest in our celebration itinerary, but unfortunately were terribly let down by rude, unwelcoming staff.

We made a booking for 1 pm and sent an email on Friday requesting for the time to be pushed out by an hour. Having not heard back on Saturday morning, we decided to call to confirm the requested change and were met by a rude, unwelcoming staff member who asked us whether we "expected them to just keep tables open for us"? Incredible.

The staff member then proceeded to tell us that they don't take bookings so she was unsure how this could be (despite us receiving a booking confirmation email)? At one stage in the conversation, the staff member informed us that she had in fact tried to call us the day before to confirm the booking which was bizarre given that only moments ago she had expressed her confusion as to how we had secured a booking in the first place? The staff member told us that there was nothing that she could do and that we should arrive, fingers-crossed, and see if there was availability.

I asked to speak to the manager who unfortunately was just as unhelpful, rude, and dismissive, and went so far as to make us feel like we should be grateful to be visiting Eagles Nest.

There was no attempt to make us feel welcome which is an incredible attitude to have, given how brutal the last year has been for the wine industry. Surely they should be doing everything they can to accommodate paying guests?

We are big fans of Eagles Nest and purchase their Viognier on an annual basis. Unfortunately, this experience has left a bad taste in our mouths and I don't foresee us visiting them anytime soon which is such a pity.

The issue is not what was said, but rather how it was said. We are flabbergasted at the arrogant attitude of both the staff member and even more so the manager.

I went with my wife & adult daughter. I have a cellar, & collect wine & am acquainted with Eagles Nest Wines. I spend a lot of money on wine annually.

We were there at about 10:30 AM, & there were not a lot of people. At a table near us were a pair of ladies who were speaking English but sounded foreign possibly American.

These ladies were clearly & obviously getting a different level of service from us. We had a man serving us who put in an appearance every 10 minutes with a new wine to taste. They had a man serving them who was standing talking to them continuously & he had up to 4 bottles of wine on the table at 1 stage. As far as I can ascertain there was only one wine tasting format with one price.

My daughter noted that the ladies above were given a rose to taste. She asked about rose & was told by our waiter that it was not on the tasting list. She pointed out that the other table was getting rose & he scowled, & with bad grace said he would bring us some. He returned several minutes later with a bottle of rose & 1 glass, & poured my daughter a glass to taste. He did not even offer my wife or me any rose.

At the end the bill for tasting was R255.00 (3 tastings at R85.00 each.) I paid with 2 notes of R200, & he brought me R45.00 change! When I pointed this out he gave me the correct change & did not even apologise.

I object to be being treated like a second class citizen in my own country. In addition I object to waiters who think that customers are there to be “milked,” & possibly everyone who drinks 4 glasses of wine is so drunk that they cannot calculate their change.

To end our horrendous visit, we (responsibly) had travelled there by Uber, & the cellular signal was so bad we struggled to summon an Uber.

I shall look elsewhere to purchase my wine. Although Eagles Nest has good wine I shall not struggle to do better at the price.

Hi Matthew I am SO sorry to hear about this experience! This all sounds very odd as the third wine you taste should have been an option between any 3 of our little eagle wines [a white, rose or red] so there is no way you should have been told you cant taste the rose. Please be so kind as to contact me with a bit more information about the person who served you [a description is fine if you do not have a name] so we can take this further. Also please please please let us know next time when you are still on the estate so that we can rectify the problem for you immediately. We hate that you left feeling less than satisfied with your experience. Kind Regards Kaylee - Team Eagles' Nest info@eaglesnestwines.com

Organised to take 14 friends for wine and platters for a birthday celebration. From beginning to end it was a nightmare! Unprofessional, not accommodating, and an uphill battle to organise,

On the day, the manageress on duty was rude, grumpy and unwelcoming.

A beautiful setting but unfortunately no idea how to run a business, especially coming out of lockdown!!.

Disappointing experience at Eagles Nest Wines. Arrived at Eagles Nest Wines Sunday 20 November and was greeted by a lovely lady who handed us over to an employee that did not acknowledge us in any way! We followed the employee to a cramped table between other patrons. I advised the employee that I booked a table for 4 on the grass area and requested shade via email in writing. The employee had no interest in what I had to say or what I had booked, the employee advised that is all they have available, and after a bit of back and forth, the employee decided to go to the reception area to check what happened. All the employee came back to say "unfortunately they cannot honor the booking on the grass" the tables on the grass area are only for bigger groups and I have been to Eagles Nest before, and we were 2 people who had a table on the grass as what I had requested. The employee had no interest in finding a solution and shrugged us off and we told the employee we will leave. The employee made no effort to apologize or fix the mess up. The response was "OK"

Will never be back at your establishment, we felt dismissed and racially profiled.

This employee had a bad attitude and needs training in service and how to handle mess-ups. We are not happy. Waste of time and the UBER ride to get to Eagles Nest.

You have tons of competition in the Valley treat all your patrons equally!

So disappointing!
We have been regular visitors to Eagles Nest over the years and have bought wines for weddings and occasions often. However, today we couldn't believe that we were at the same wine farm!.
Management is non existent and whilst our wine tasting assistant was okay there was little enthusiasm for the product.
We ordered 2 " Undecided Platters" which were totally underwhelming- ( probably bought from the local supermarket) and didn't warrant the hefty tag of R315 per platter!!!Pate was an extra R25, scrappy bits meat, 4 slices of apple, 2 bits of cheese and dried sausage hardly value for money.
Beyond disappointment! Need to up your game before it's too late.🤨

On 23 April, my sister used the hop on and off bus in the Constantia region.

We decided to hop off at Eagles Nest.
Firstly we had to seat ourselves after about 5 mins of waiting and all the waiters ignoring us.
Then eventually Graeme came and said he's be assisting us.
He then went on serving other tables without taking our order.
He claimed to be changing shift but clearly attending to new guests who arrived after us.
After several attempts at getting assistance, we decided to escalate to the manager (a female with short hair) she too dismissed us, saying that they were all distracted and fascinated by the baboons and told us we could leave if we wanted to. The experience was the worst ever and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth to this day

Bit disappointing really. Constantia is such a beautiful place, Eagles Nest is a nice setting but no view of the valley beyond. Service felt very rushed, no detail or explanation of each wine, used only 2 glasses for 5 different wines. Cheeseboard was only okay. Bill presented without us even asking for it despite there still being 30mins until closing. People arriving at 4pm (still open) were being advised to go to a neighboring estate, which on reflection, is much better (Constantia Glen). Overall, just okay, underwhelming.

It's my 3rd time as a tourist. From the first moment I felt clearly that things were not the same as before. 1) The waiter's attitude was very annoying.

2) Wines were simply poured into the glass and not a word was explained in the wine test. The name of the wine was not even mentioned.

3) No new glasses were brought for the Red Wines. She spilled used white wine glasses on the table.

4) We ordered separately for everyone, including children. but when we ask for the wi-fi password for the 3rd time; We have given you enough wi-fi passwords.

The atmosphere is nice, but how is it possible to spend a pleasant time by being exposed to rude behavior?

Sadly it is not what it used to be. As wine tasting members who bought membership years ago and visited regularly, we were limited to one member using the membership per table. Other members could not and had to pay. Waiter rude. Prro service. Long wait. Food is not what it used to be. Looks like they are saving on the platters. Although the children and dogs had fun, our adult group celebrating a birthday, won't be going back in a hurry.
