Beautiful view and great setting marred by terrible attitude and poor brand ambassadorship from waiter .
Upon visiting family in Cape Town 7 months after we had moved to the Eastern Cape, we were looking forward to visiting some of the familiar wine farms. As it was new year's eve, we settled on Constantia Glen with high expectations based on previous experience as my husband is from Cape Town and knows the winelands and Cape Town wines very well having worked on many of the wine farms himself. Our experience was drastically marred by our waiter, Ebraim, who was condescending from the minute he started explaining the wine to us, cutting us off when we had questions, and wielding his limited knowledge on wine like a blunt sword. I decided not to address his terrible attitude with him on request from my husband who didn't want to affect the experience. But upon paying, when we chose to leave a 5% tip to reflect the below-par service and how we were made to feel like sub-standard customers, Ebraim quipped that the service must have been good considering how we were 'shorting' him. I asked him to repeat his comment, which he did loudly and with much contempt. This is when I told him that his attitude is terrible and that he had been condescending to us from the minute we sat down. It was obvious from his sarcastic and dismissive response to me that he did not care. However, he is doing the Constantia Glen brand a disservice and is not a good ambassador for the farm. Our interaction with Ebraim ruined our experience at Constantia Glen, and we will not be back to the farm because of him.

    Quite poor service.
In six weeks of touring Cape wineries this was the worst service I found anywhere. We had five different servers over lunch, it was hit and miss. We ordered more bread from one, another told us we couldn’t have more bread, another added the non existent bread to the bill. Nice place but wouldn’t recommend it.

Great food, wine and view, lousy front of house staff
First impressions count..... we'd booked a table couple weeks before going. 2 ladies on front desk barely looked up at us when we arrived, told us they were fully booked. I said we'd booked a table and asked if she could check. Low and behold we were there but both their attitudes was shocking. Seated us, fab view of the estate. Chair was hard and uncomfortable. I suffer with nerve pain so asked really politely if there was any chance I could swap and have one of the chairs with the cushion on....well she just looked at me as if I was asking for a trip to the moon sighed and went off to get one. Not one smile crossed her mouth! Food and wine lovely though and great view. Our waitress was helpful though. Sort your front of house staff out please!!

    Constantia Glen Winery Shocking!
This was an aweful experience. Everyone at the table was very disappointed with their meal. We had a table inside and at 4pm we were told to vacate our table ( we were still eating) and go and sit outside, as the table was booked. We were told to sit outside. It was freezing. We asked for some blankets and was told we need to buy a blanket for R150.00 I will definitely not go back there.

We went to have dinner at Constantia Glen last night, we booked a table for six at 7pm. We didn’t take long once seated to order and ordered both the drinks and food at the same time. We ordered 2 x chacuterie boards to start, followed by six steaks. The boards arrived and were delicious, the waiter hovered to collect the plates and mentioned that he needed to bring us the steaks asap as the kitchen was closing. After the steaks we asked if we could have dessert to be told no the kitchen had closed. As we left I looked into the kitchen and it was scrubbed clean with no staff in it at 8.30pm. Why advertise you are open until 9pm and take a 7pm booking if you cannot provide a proper service or full menu. We all left disappointed as we listened to music and chatter on the other side of the kitchen wall, clearly the staff hadn’t gone home!

Not our first visit to this wonderful spot. I booked for a staff lunch. The venue is exceptional. The food was superb, enjoyed by all. The service however fell far short. We booked for 10 seats and our table was set for 9. Easily resolved. We waited over an hour before being invited to order food. It was served after another long wait but the dishes ordered were all absolutely delicious. After another long wait I finally managed to summon a waitress to advise we wanted to order dessert. Menus were offered but no follow up until eventually I managed to call another waitress. Another long wait but again, the food was perfect. The bill added a default 15% service charge which is normal for larger groups but certainly not deserved in this case.
We had an enjoyable afternoon at this wonderful venue but a stay of nearly 4 hours due to slow service was not appropriate.

We arrived on a sunny and cool afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed the wine and food. The views were incredible. The outdoor lawn was a fun spot to take photos and just relax on their beanbag chairs. Another bonus was that it was so close to everything in Cape Town. They let us stay and drink and relax for a long time and we never felt that we needed to finish up. They guided us in what to order as a pairing with our wines. It was fun.

We booked the private dining area for my husbands 50th birthday. For obvious reasons we couldn’t have a party and unfortunately we expected more. Bad service. No complimentary anything. Brought a cake and was told that it would cost R350 to eat it in house
, plates and glasses stood blocking view from the people we were taking to. All in all a 50th lunch on his special leaving with a bad taste.

Great views and some unusual food make this a good spot for lunch. We usually go for a flammkuchen main, which is too much for one so half goes home with us , plus another main dish, on this occasion a very nice fillet of beef. Wines from the estate are pleasant and not expensive so all in all very good value. I’d suggest booking in the indoors area , which has open sides, for best protection from the noon sun whilst having the best views over the beautiful farmland.
Good service from when you walk in to when you leave.

It's all about one person CALEB. I could write about many aspects of our wonderful experience. However, without Caleb it would all have fallen apart. He did the work of 4-6 people. He was covering far too many tables ( we alone were 7 on one table and he was also working another 5 tables around us....) He was doing too many jobs, bringing menus ( not enough on the table ), taking away dirty glasses, bringing clean glasses, taking away dishes, giving educational tastings, answering questions patiently, taking orders. His efficiency and effectiveness were clearly compromised. There were hiccups. The problems were obviously to be laid at the foot of management who clearly had not enough skilled waiting or wine educated staff or staff ( plenty at front reception standing about ) but not enough working tables .Instead of tables of guests being let down Caleb rose to the challenge. Calm, professional, industrious...I hope Constantia Glen, you appreciate Caleb because this review could easily have been 2 stars....

Our private tour guide took us to Glen Constantia as part of our tour to the Cape. Without a booking we were seated in the light and airy tasting room with expansive views of the region out to False Bay. We selected the tasting of 6 different white wines. Mathew, our server, was both friendly and informative. A good food selection was available but we didn't participate. With generous pourings the charge of R130 pp represents fantastic value for money.

Laughter, glasses being filled and delicious food being served
Did the 6 white wine tasting. The smells dancing in your nose… banana, oak…

RANGA you rock. We shared everything he knew about wine and what I know. Amusing as the youngsters did not know grapes are all white and the grape skin Color’s the wine red. Rose with its pink Color actual from red grapes.
Sauvignon - block on the top right where the sun gently ripens the grapes.. 1 hour and few minutes every day. The Chenin blanc with an oak wooded smell but smooth. Riesling a bit too tart for me.
Then the JUSTIN van Wyk trio.. Olivia Grace just spectacular (a word that so well describes) label very well thought out.

Then the flammkuchen smells drifting up your nostrils …black truffle shavings, mushrooms and onions. Im off the opinion its perhaps the best in town..

Shadows hang low over the valley, the Green vineyards lazing in the cool afternoon.
Time to leave this beauty …
So long
My best & fav wine farm by far..

My wife had chosen Constantia Glen for their menu as we planned on having lunch while there. The winery itself is lovely and the view over the vineyards is beautiful. They offer nice indoor and outdoor seating areas, and a good menu with choices for everyone.
We had a tasting and a light lunch. The food was good, and we enjoyed the wines too.
The only reason I couldn't rate Constantia Glen higher was the service. Our waitress was very slow. They don't give you all four wines at once, she poured the whites, then came back when we were done to pour the reds. And we waited and waited to order, then for the wines, then for the other wines. Our lunch ended up taking nearly two hours.
Lastly, I don't think of myself as a wine snob, but doing a tasting at a winery, I didn't expect to have the red wines poured into the glasses of white we had just finished : (
We enjoyed our stop at Constantia Glen, but it could have been even better.

It was extremely windy the day we visited. External seating area is very exposed to the elements so umbrellas had to be taken down. Two glasses were blown off tables and smashed. Children were running around, largely unsupervised, darting between tables barefoot. It was amazing an injury didn’t occur. Constantia Glen need to ensure guests’ enjoyment isn’t spoiled by inconsiderate others. Wine and food good. Views amazing.
