A lovely day out, up over Sir Lowry's pass to Elgin, where the market is fabulous, lots of places to eat and drink,as well as craft stalls too. We had a 3 1/2 hour stop there which could have possibly been a little shorter. The journey back was 4 hours and bit too long, but all in all a wonderful day. I was great to see all the locals coming out to wave as we whooshed by.

Alright, there was not much organisation at Monument Station when we arrived on 8 July 2018 and we left an hour late but all in all it was a fun trip. There were volunteers in all the carriages who kept us fully updated at all times as to when we would arrive in and leave Simon's Town. Special low-fare taxis were laid on at the station to take passengers into town, but it is not an impossible distance to walk. There is a buffet car attached to the train which serves coffee, cold drinks and cupcakes. Simon's Town is a wonderfully quaint old town and well worth the trip.

No communication from staff pretty much from beginning to end. Left 2 hours late arrived back also almost 2 hours late. In Simonstown you have to pay for a taxi into town also not the amount that was told to us on the train. Children on train with constant running back and forth was a bit irritating also.

I did not feel like spending another mothers-day in an over priced restaurant with screaming kids mediocre food and worse service, the others did not feel like cooking so we settled on a train trip and a picnic.

What a joy! Mom thoroughly enjoyed the old dame Katie who steamed through the Mother city along the vineyards to Stellenbosch, where we picnicked and enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the Oak lined streets of Stellenbosch.

Mom shared a joke with the train driver and taught him to blow whistle they way she remembered it peeeeyouwabab!! He got it just right! Thanknyou driver!

The kids could run around and play without being cooped up.

A marvelous day!

Thank you to all the volunteers who maintain and run this sweet nostalgic train

We started off departing more than 2 hours late. After looking forward to this trip for more than a month. First time on. Train for my 5 year old son. Something was wrong with the locomotive and they had to swop it for another one. And then the second one did not have another water, etc etc etc. my question, don't you check these things before hand? On the way back, we were told that we would be picked up at 4. Train came closer to 5. We had to wait at a station that had no facilities, no water, no toilets in 30 degree heat and many of us had small kids. By the time we got back in the dark at CPT station, what was suppose to be just an outing for a couple of hours...we were all deperate just to get off the train. No apologies from the company, just a lady who wanted us to buy raffle tickets from her. Really?

We wanted to go to winery's and looked for this train so we could give kids a different experience. Unfortunately train wasn't leaving that day but we could see him. It is just one train at the station, from 1910 and it is well maintained from outside.
We didn't get inside and didn't go traveling so my experience was just this.
For the kids it was a good experience because they could see some photos and a real old train. So it worths a visit!
In spite of that station is very difficult to find and it is near a local that seems not good.

I booked tickets for my family of 4 - my kids are aged 2 and 4. We were all so excited for the steam train. It was scheduled to leave at 9.30. It only left at 1.30pm! I had to abandon the trip with my little one as he just couldn't manage waiting around. My husband stayed with my 4 year old as he was adamant he was going. The problem was that no one was communicating to us what was happening which made me really upset.

The facilities at the station are also quite terrible - litter everywhere , broken toilets and broken chairs (if you are lucky enough to find one to sit on!).

I think we had bad luck that day. Pity....

What a fantastic day out, a lovely old steam train, and some of the friendliest heritage steam crews, you could ever wish to meet. Service was excellent. We would highly recommend this tour.

On Sunday 26th Feb, my husband and i along with our two daughters went on a day trip to Spier, where we had lunch and wine tasting. What a wonderful experience we all had, the train is amazing, the sounds and smell of the smoke was all part of the fun. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this trip.
