About
Jou Ma Se Comedy Club is proud to announce its name change to Cape Town Comedy Club as of 25 February 2015. "This is quintessentially a coming of age story" says founder and co-owner, comedian Kurt Schoonraad. The brand was first created in 2005 and part of the Cape Town Festival, as a tongue in cheek "Pop up Comedy Club". In 2007, the club then moved to the Albert Hall in Woodstock, where Kurt's idea to provide a regular, reputable stand-up club was welcomed with open arms by Cape Town's laugh-craving populace. Word soon spread, and Jou Ma Se Comedy Club became known as the mother of all Cape Town comedy clubs and home to some of the country's greatest talent. The club then moved to The River Club in Observatory in 2010 until October 2013. In November 2013 the brand finally found a permanent home at the beautiful historic Pumphouse in the heart of the V&A Waterfront. The club has hosted some of the world's most famous comedians including; Michael Mittermeier (Germany), Christopher Titus (US), Babben Larsson (Sweden), Dana Alexander (UK) and the best of the best South African stars and also hosted numerous high profile corporate events. On the 30th of March Comedy Central will air the first special "Cape Town Comedy Club presents ....", a first of its kind for Cape Town, shot live at the Cape Town Comedy Club. After a highly successful first year at the clubs new home at The Pumphouse, the management team has decided to rename the club to "Cape Town Comedy Club". Kurt explains "On reflection the name change seems like a natural thing to do, it feels like the brand is all grown up now and the new name reflects that. The name change which comes into effect on 25th February 2015 also makes it available to a much wider audience." Kurt and his team look forward to many more years of making you all laugh at the new ... Cape Town Comedy Club.

Great place for fun night out on town or visitors visiting & wanting to experience the Cape Town Lekka Vibe.
Kurt & Co. are Brilliant & keep the laughs coming. I like they have Open Mike for newbies & they pretty good the times we've been there.
Staff are friendly, helpful & food good, abit more variety on menu would be good but pleasant overall.
The jokes do veer to the local language...afrikaans or african languages...so foreigners may loose out on joke...but comedians do try to "explain"...so abit delay punchline ;)
But good fun all round. Brilliant!!
Good luck to Jou Ma se ^_^

My friends and I had the most marvellous night at Jou Me se Comedy Club! With four different acts it was well worth the money and the line up was a facinating range of a very well known South African comic, one new comedian and a fabulous range of local and international humour. South African's like to laugh at themselves so for visitors it would be a fabulous way to get to know a little more about South Africa, the dymanics and (a little) about the politics - All the while being accessible to all.

The guests ranged from couples on dates, to groups of friends celebrating birthdays to those who just popped in for a laugh. Good music but never too loud that you couldn't comfortably chat before and between acts.

With a good menu, well stocked bar (and smooth table service!) it was a delightful night. For those with a night to spare in Cape Town it is a fun, different way to spend your evening without having to head too far from the beaten track as it is in the Waterfront!

Go for a great evening, dinner and a laugh no matter your age or where you are from!

If you're looking for great food, world class comedy and an atmosphere second to none - then you've come to the right place. A host to takes time to chat to the patrons, creating a platform for up and coming comedians - it's a must do on your visit to Cape Town. I've tried just about everything on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. two thumbs up!!!

Our company was having a board meeting and i, as the CEO of the group, thought that in order to take some pressure off the directors and relax together, the Cape Town Comedy Club would be a great idea. We were a table of 12 people. How wrong was i. The service at best can be described as slow, if not non existant. The food was no better than an entry level fast food joint. The humour was poor. Whilst I am not a prude, it appears that this establishment thinks that humour is made by every second wor being the F word. Eventually it got to much. The sound system was distorted and hence often all of us would miss out on certian words or few words.

We visited the comedy club on a Sunday night and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food and drinks were good value and very tasty. The service was quick and the waiter noticed when are drinks were running low and came to see if we wanted more. The comedians were on the whole very funny, although we didn’t get all of the humour as some of it was South African related. I would recommend arriving reasonably early for a good seat as it was full.

We have attended 3 shows at the club already and what an amazing time we had! All ages, races and nationalities can have a good laugh. Good food, great cocktails and an even better vibe!
A fantastic date night out!
We will definitely be back...again!

I have been to the comedy club previously when they were situated at the Riverclub.

The new venue at the Pumphouse is really awesome. It is has a bar area and a kitchen that serves good hearty dishes like pizza and burgers. The kitchen is halal, no pork or alcohol is used in the kitchen and all meat is halal. However they do serve alcohol on the premises.

The comedy was great, my stomach was sore from all the laughter. Gareth Woods was the headliner and man, was he funny. The other acts were incredible too: Tracy Klaas, Irshaad Mohammed and Ambrose Uren - we were also treated to an impromptu stand-up by the owner himself: Kurt Schoonraad.

What a great night. I highly recommend it for a friends night out or even date night.

A great laugh in a lovely set up. Drinks and snacks are really good! The show set up is perfect! I loved the variety and the audience seems to a be a nice mix of young and old. There was a tequila special on the night I went! Awesome stuff. A must try
