Friends, the connoisseur's tasting at the Bascule is an unexpected evening's entertainment at a remarkable price (approx. $150 USD for two), and this tour de force was one of the many highlights of our trip to Cape Town. Of course, the adventure is as good as the tour guide, and I most highly recommend that you request our friend, Mfundo, as your tour guide. The experience was a private tasting in a rich and romantic setting, deeply informative, well worth the investment inasmuch as it lasted about three hours. Small pairings were included, and additional side plates were available for a very fair price. (The chef was awesome, by the way, and the plating rose to match the tone of the wonderful Whiskeys and Scotches we were tasting.) There were many surprises, and even for the more seasoned palate that both my partner and I brought to the occasion, the offerings were a treat. NOTE: It will be wise to plan ahead and reservations are generally required, but the experience is definitely worth the effort. On a final note, location also adds to the romance - an evening stroll along the waterfront in the afterglow was a perfect capstone to the event. Again... ask for Mfundo. You won't go wrong.

My daughter and I stopped for tapas and drinks whilst watching the sun go over the port. What a fabulous place this is. I tried Ostrich and Snoeke. Both excellent,
A visit to the cellars was also great fun.
Definitely be going back.

This place is just amazing. The drinks are perfectly prepared and the food was very good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
This is a bar that is well worth a visit. Relax outside while sipping a drink.

We ate lunch here twice and came back in the evening for 'tapas'. Really nice to sit out overlooking the harbour if the weather is fine, and its location is slightly out of the way (in the basement of Cape Grace hotel), so not too busy. Service was friendly and attentive.
The choice of light meals was a relief to avoid stuffing ourselves with too much lovely food. Particularly liked the beef tapas with bread. Didn't try any whisky, but there was plenty of other choices. Highly recommended

After a concert at Artscape, we decided to pop into Bascule on a Saturday night as it's basically around the corner. Tucked away underneath Cape Grace Hotel, this bar has everything you could expect from a bar in a high-end hotel: friendly staff, a great selection of wines (and whiskeys!) and excellent tapas.

This bar is underneath the Cape Grace hotel, just a short walk from where we stayed. We didn't know it was there until the last night of our stay in Cape Town - wish we'd found it much sooner as we loved the live music and the hip crowd, right by the boats docked in the harbour.

Well worth it, particularly Friday nights for the live music

Very expensive by local standards, but an outstanding location and great service. Some of the clientele are a little edgy.

The self educating whiskey tasting was something new and we enjoyed it. Some of the best pub food I've ever eaten! It's understated on the menu - go hungry!
