We went on an organised tour in a fairly large group. Started with. Visit to Lepala Restaurant where we had a fantastic buffet meal, accompanied by a local percussion band and talks from the restaurant owner, a very engaging woman who talked us through the history of how she set up a restaurant here. Took in the worthy local community... More

We travelled with Illios to this part of the world. We were fascinated by many of the stories and humbled to be living in the Western conditions we find ourselves today. Guide was informative and personable. I can only ask people to see it for themselves.

Visited with our guide who was really informative and in fact originally came from Langa. There is good work going on here and we went to a community building where fantastic music was being played and there was a pottery where members of the Langa community are taught how to make pots and dishes which they then sell. There are... More

We did a guided tour of Langa because we wanted to experience all aspects of South African culture. It is clear to see the long standing legacy of apartheid in the townships and Langa is no exception to this, with people living in very basic accommodation, some no more than corrugated iron sheds. However, considering the deprivation that we were... More

We visited on a tour which included detailed helpful discussion and history from a guide who lives in the township. He was able to point out differences and changes we would not have seen ourselves and introduce us to some families in their homes and a local pre school. We felt entirely safe although we did not walk far from... More

My 1st 2 days in Capetown were great... hiked Table Mountain, went to the waterfront, BoKaap, Cypress Bay, etc. .all the touristy stuff. On our 3rd day, the day started off great but ended in terror. Our guide picked us up at the hotel to take a tour of the Langa township, which is the 1st Black township in South... More

Seeing a township was one of the things I wanted to do, as friends had recommended it. It was good to see the living conditions and to see that they aren't all as bad as some of the former publicity. Improvements have been made. The local guide was a young man who lives there. Since it was Sunday, we also... More

I wouldn't be able to advise people to travel here. Loads of criminals anxiously waiting to separate you from your belongings. Violent crime is a serious issue here and this is not a place for those who do not have a complete understanding of South Africa to venture

This was a very difficult trip to experience but was absolutely glad we did it. This place could not be more opposite from what you see in the main tourist areas of Cape Town. We were a little worried of how we would be greeted but couldn't have been more wrong. You cant really say you have experienced South Africa... More

A trip that evoked an array of feelings from the start till the very end. While reminiscing about his humble beginnings, Mamnkeli (our guide) gave us a deep and thorough description of life in the Langa township as he described the life of the people in their various abodes. We'd seen the landscape change from houses with pools to containers... More
