Actually St. George's mall is not a mall but a street. During the days of the Dutch colony it was called Berg straat. The name change occured when the British had firmly established their power in 1830. George is the patron saint of England. The cathedral at the far southwestern end of the street got the same name.
Since motorized traffic was banned from the street, St. George's mall is a pedestrian zone. There are quite a few stalls selling souvenirs and other items. During lunch time there are some places to buy food or even sit down and have a simple meal. Activity dies down after 6PM, when also security presence is reduced. There are some interesting boards with info about Cape Town's history.

If you are looking for local places to eat and buy local goods, this is the place. I didn't feel pestered at all, but at the same time, I like cut chatting with people. The kiosks start to shut down around 6pm. You will see many of the same items you see at Trading Post in Century city, just a lot cheaper. Make sure you bargain.

We stumbled across a weekly lunch market at St. Georges Mall while we were walking by on a Thursday afternoon and we were so happy we did. Filled with independent, local food vendors and great for foodies. Great for eating and people-watching while you listed to the live band. Sandwiches, pastries, biltong, fried foods, smoothies - something tasty for everyone.

An easy way to get from one side of the city to another as it is mainly a pedestrian mall with fine shops selling goods and services. St Georges Mall use to be a city street running parallel with Adderley street, but as big business moved to new parts of the city it became more tourist friendly with a myriad of sidewalk cafes. You can even visit the tourist guide offices here. Zetlers Jewelry is a place to by both traditional and local products. Mr Zetler has been in st Georges street for a few decades now and advises tourists about diamonds .

I didn't think about St Georges Mall as a shopping place, more like a nice street with some interesting buildings. Our hotel was on one corner so we have walked few times through. We have also found a piece of the Berlin Wall here...not sure why it's there.

Once you have left the Church Street Antique Market, continue down Church Street then take the second left and you are in St. Georges Mall. You can wonder down this pedestrian tree lined mall all the way down to the Foreshore. The mall is a vibrant shopping area consisting of shops, banks, jewellery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and individual traders. Here you can find almost anything you need. Agreat shopping experience

Awful place. You're constantly harassed by unscrupulous people who don't take no for an answer. The security (CID?) are not very helpful either. I don't recommend visiting st. George's Mall.

This is a collection of stalls holding all tourist materials. We didn't look at prices as materials were not level of ordinary at best. The stalls cover a one block wide by four block long mall area between buildings.
