I was really keen to visit this art museum , but as I entered the building , there was a massive art display , which I found , shocking and terribly offensive . In light of the countries racial problems , I think this type of display is irresponsible ons reckless . It a blatant radical and rarist piece .... More

A very nice art museum with changing exhibits. It used to be free . the ticket price is so low it is almost free :). The museum is right across from the planetarium on the opposite end of Company's Garden (a park in the center of the CBD). The museum is also great on a rainy day....not huge but good... More

The National Gallery was probably my favorite thing that I did in Cape Town and is easily one of my favorite art museums in the world. The gallery is superbly curated with an array of styles of amazing works - seriously a must-see for those in the area!

We attended the Iziko African National Gallery a couple of weeks ago with friends. We were horrified to see a poster which had derogatory and foul language towards white people. We feel this poster needs to be removed immediately as it is uncalled for. Needless to say we will never visit this Gallery again.

Always something new and great to see the development and progression of cultures so long deprived of being shown. The symbiosis of the old slave and the new is startling. In town and in an historic setting not to be missed and always a great place to start your Cape Town experience.

We went for a Company Gardens excursion with the kids and spend a wonderful time in the art gallery. It has beautiful, striking and excellent pieces of art. It is world-class and should be visited.

Recommend this museum for a brief overview of South African Art through history. Pretty setting beside the Company Gardens.

The S. A. National Gallery is always worth a look. The permanent and historical collection is limited, but one goes for the special exhibits and the contemporary art. These are exhibits of works by African, often local, artists. While the art is not always something I like, it is always thought-provoking. I have learned a lot about African history and... More

The National Gallery is a great place to go if you want to learn more about African culture and history. The selection covers several centuries and the Gallery is surely of great support to emerging artists who might be selected to exhibit. I've only paid a visit after 4 years that I've spent in Cape Town, but I regret i... More
