A very good value trip and well organised. Arrive early if you want to sit up top of the boat and book ahead to avoid queues. Take a coat. A very memorable tour and the guides are good. Well worth it and a fascinating view...More

I accompanied 16 high school students (and 2 teachers) from St. Louis, MO to South Africa in June/July 2017. After visiting the pertinent apartheid related sites in Johannesburg, a trip to Robben Island was a mandatory follow-up in Cape Town to help us all understand...More

You should see it to remind yourself that the path to freedom is not easy. It is excellent idea to have an ex-prisoner as a guide.

The boat ride was rocky getting to the island and many people got sick. That said, the tour guide was informative and a former prisoner gave us a tour of the prison which was meaningful. The round trip experience took 3.5 hours. We had a...More

The Robben Island has lots of emotions attached due to late Nelson Mandela and other freedom fighters spending many years in jail while fighting against the Apartheid Regime. The entire island is very well maintained by the present government. While visiting the jail I immediately...More

We went on a boat to robben Island and the sea was very rough but I guess it's the only way to get there! The actual Island was interesting and a great eye opener to how people were kept

Sadly this was one of the things our family most wanted to see in cape town . It was unfortunately not nearly as informative or interesting as we had hoped . The ferry journey was very slow taking nearly an hour . During this time...More

You can't visit Cape Town and not do this trip. It is essential if you want to understand more about what life was like for those who stood against Apartheid and paid a heavy price for their beliefs. It's a nice boat trip there and...More

Insightful trip. We had the privilege of having a former political prisoner as our guide: Kgotso Glen Ntsolengoe. Go and do the tour while men like him still do it. His knowledge and willingness to share it is humbling and inspiring. I imagine the tour...More

A pleasant ferry although we had the large ferry out but came back on the smaller ferry which was better. Saw a whale on the way back. Shown round the prison by and ex inmate and heard his real life story. But the bus trip...More

There is a 9am, 11am and final 1pm sailing. It is advised to book the day before as even in the winter they do sell out quickly.. On the website the boats won't be confirmed until early the morning before the sailing. It's... More

I think that there is only one ferry line to Robben Island. Agree that you should get whatever boat corresponds to the time you want. Yes, get there early to get the best view. Consider a sea sickness patch if you are... More

They'll tell you when to return because consider that it will take you 30 minutes to get there. There's a bus tour of part of the island and then a walking tour of the prison. You'll want time.
