About
Though the beach is still popular, the elegant splendor that once graced this seaside resort community barely shows through the paved-over streets, fast-food eateries and shopping centers.

We wanted to look at the painted beach huts so took an Uber from Cape Town via the penguins and we stayed around 5 mins !
The beach huts are a disgrace and look like they could fall down. In the next decent wind. It’s such a shame that this has been allowed to happen as there’s nothing else there really.
The area felt very rundown and a bit unsafe.

I have been going to Muizenberg Beach since forever. Never fails to delight. Lots to watch from the beach and then delish restaurants all around.
Quaint streets to explore 10 minutes from the beach below railway line below checkers.
Never a problem to spend a day there. Swimming and chilling, eating and exploring then back to beach for another warm salty swim..
Lots showers and ablutions

If you prefer a sanitized experience go to Clifton beach and mingle with the jet set and tourists.
If rubbing shoulders with locals is more your style and you like the multicultural aspects of Cape Town then you will love Muizemberg.
If surfing in the most family friendly waves is your thing then Muizenberg is a must.
If you prefer the waves to yourself then don’t go to Muizenberg.
If taking a day off from aggression is your aim then Muizenberg is the place to be.
There are emptier beaches and more segregated beaches around Cape Town choose your pulse Muizenberg is crowded and busy for a reason and that’s mostly locals but there is room for the visitors as well.

Relative to the other beaches in Cape Town this was pretty underwhelming. The buildings were weathered, and they only took ~30 sec to see. The rest of the beach reminded me of the classic Outer Banks or Great Lakes beach town. Put put courses, waterslides, etc. Good for families, but not what we were expecting.
Tiger’s Milk was delicious and right on the water, but they have other locations in town.
Overall, the beach wasn’t worth the trip out there, but it was worth a stop either going to or coming from Simons Town/the Cape.

Nice beach however the day I visited, it was packed. Took us a while to park and to walk down to the beach only for the wind to get really bad and force us to leave. The beach itself is lovely and the colourful change rooms make this beach stand out from the others

Good for surfing, but when you just want to hangout on a beach, you better go to Camps Bay or Llandudno. A very good surf beach, several places to rent wetsuits and boards. But no nice terraces or places to eat and drink. Not very clean neither.

Seen better days. No longer feels a safe area, certainly not a place for girls travelling alone or elderly tourists. Loads of litter. Very sad to see the area like this.

This is a great beach for families and surface and just hanging out as the waves are perfectly suited for beginner surfers not to mention beach yoga

Awesome area, lots of new fresh shops close to the beach... The colorful houses need some TLC... Main reason I went there was to see the houses but was kinda disappointed

Whatever you do when visiting this beach or any other for that matter, do not walk beyond the huts or any isolated part of the beach. Stay in areas with people. We were held by knifepoint at muizenburg beach on 30Aug at 11:20am. By the grace of God we were unharmed but rattled. Be safe out there and don't let your guard down.

Yes, you can enjoy a picnic at Muizenberg Beach.
There also several fabulous coffee shops and restaurants to enjoy if the weather doesn't permit a picnic.

Does anyone know roughly how much a taxi/Uber would cost from Muizenberg to Green Point? My husband and I are looking at how to get back after the Bluebird market on Friday night.

How can i get from Cape Town to muizenberg beach with the public transportation if myciti buses don't run there?

The other bus company Golden Arrow might go that way. There is always the train but only if you’re adventurous as it is apparently dangerous.

Is it safe to travel from Camps bay to Muizenberg beach with the luggage in the boot of the vehicle, park the car at the beach to take a surfing lesson and then proceed to Somerset West and then to Robertson via R310 and then N2?
Peter L
Jandira, Sao Paulo19 contributions
Yes it is but park as close as possible to the beach where there are “car guards” who are reliable.
