Stephen has a wealth of knowledge about the craft of wine and the area. He picked a great selection of Stellenbosch wineries for us to sample, and had a lot to contribute to the tasting on top of the standard talk from the winery staff. He was a pleasure to be with for the day, and as a fellow Yachtsman, I really enjoyed hearing about his sailing adventures as well.

I found Stephen via Lonely Planet. With his 5 decades of experience in the world of wine, the risks of going wrong was quite low! And, he lived up to expectations - actually, went beyond esp. if you think he is 80 years old and a one man army!

I did a day tour with him. The spec I had given him was to focus exclusively on premium "Pinotage" wine makers and maybe a bit of Chenin Blanc ones. Must say that he did an awesome job of curating the tour in the Stellenbosch and Franschoek areas. We had lunch at a lovely vineyard which had a restaurant specialising in french cuisine.

He was punctual and had it all planned out including small things like wi fi in the car, phone chargers, drinking water etc. It was a memorable day!

Thank you Stephen.

What a fantastic experience. Stephen has a vast knowledge of wine and the region’s history. I learned so much from him. There's no way we could have seen as much and experienced the wide array of wines and fine dining if we hadn’t booked with Stephen. He’s one cool guy!

Thank you Stephen for a great, personally curated wine tour. What a privilege to spend it with someone so experienced in South African wine. Stephen really took our preferences on board and made sure we visited some of the best vineyards. We went on the wine tram the next few days which was fun but didn’t come close to the quality of places we visited with Stephen, and lunch might have been one of our favourite meals of the whole trip. We often rely on trip advisor reviews and I must say we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Stephen to our friends and family who are looking for a we’ll curated wine tour and a great day.

I went on a one day tour of Stellenbsoch with Stephen and had a fabulous time. Stephen is a great guide. He has a wealth of knowledge of both of the local vineyards and area. The tour he designed for me took me to range of vineyards which gave me a chance to sample some of the best Stellenbosch had to offer! I highly recommend these tours!

There are a number of ways of experiencing the winelands of the Western Cape including driving yourselves around the area and visiting some of the many wine farms that you pass. However a much better way is to enjoy the birthday treat organised for me by my (teetotal!!) wife. She booked the highly recommended Stephen Flesch who owns Gourmet Wine Tours to collect us from our home, drive us to particular farms in the Stellenbosch area (having firstly discreetly discovered from my wife of any particular wine or farm I may be interested in) on an organised itinerary that he had prepared including a fabulous lunch at Tokara. I had a fantastic day, as did my wife who did not taste but still enjoyed the wonderful scenery and seeing and learning a little more as to why I am so passionate about wine! Stephen is marvellous company, with his calm friendly manner and encyclopaedic knowledge of wines, estates, people, history etc. especially in the Western Cape. Stephen is well travelled and is very knowledgeable about wines from all parts of the world and we had terrific conversations. I managed to taste between 20 and 25 wines (spitting out most, as otherwise I would have been wrecked!) and Stephen's insight on each helped enormously. We had great conversations with staff at some of the farms, particularly the famous Kanonkop Estate, which were made better by the fact that Stephen is well known at all of these places. He also organised for us to have lunch at Tokara which was sensational - we sat on their terrace with magnificent views and I had 2 of their own wonderful wines (no spitting out here!). Then a final tasting overlooking a lovely valley watching impala, zebra etc in the shade as it was over 35 degrees, before being driven home. It was a memorable birthday treat and thanks to my wife for organising and paying for it, but very special thanks to Stephen who made the day. As I said at the beginning, you can drive around and visit various wine farms yourselves or you can be organised and driven by Stephen Flesch - I know which I prefer and highly recommend!

Stephen knows wine! And wineries around Capetown. Just tell him what kind of wine you want to taste and he will arrange for a day or more of touring.
He can also obtain hard-to-get reservations at top restaurants; in our case The Food Barn and Terroir.
We also toured the Cape Peninsula with Stephen; gorgeous drive, don't miss the African penguins.

The Cape Winelands offer a unique combination of fine wine, world class cuisine and stunning scenery. A day spent with a knowledgable guide adds an extra dimension and avoids the driving problem. Stephen Flesch knows his wine and his food but above all he knows the people behind the wineries and restaurants. He is an informative and entertaining guide who introduced us to vineyards we had not visited before, both family owned concerns and some of the well known names, and he took us to parts of the wineries that we would not have seen otherwise (we were there at harvest time). Stony Brook Vineyard near Franschhoek was the unexpected star or our day along with lunch at Foliage. Highly recommended.

We booked Stephens tour after reading a glowing review in a wine magazine. The experience lived up to all expectations. We had sent a list of couple of wineries we would like to visit in and around Stellenbosch. Stephen arranged the entire itinerary including lunch at the beautiful Jordan restaurant. We managed to visit five other wineries. Stephens knowledge of wine and the region is robust. The experience was highly professional, personalised and memorable.

We did two private tours with Stephen - one day to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and a second day to Cape Point including a couple of wineries. Stephen tailored the itineraries to meet our wine interests and the wineries he chose to take us to were excellent, both in terms of the beautiful locations and the wines for tasting. On both days he had booked outstanding restaurants for our lunches, with the tour certainly living up to its "gourmet" name. Stephen was punctual, courteous and good company, as well as being very knowledgeable about wine. His car was very comfortable and you can access wifi in it if you are desperate to post some pictures. You can certainly do these tours more cheaply if you join in with others, but if you are a wine buff, you will enjoy Stephen's tour much more as you will go to the best wineries, some only able to be visited with a prior appointment, and get personal attention.
