Once famed as Africa’s southernmost point, the Cape of Good Hope remains an icon for sailors and a spiritual place. Hike here from Cape Point, where legend states two oceans meet, on this convenient guided day trip by coach. On the way, stop at Boulders Beach Penguin Colony (ticket own expense) to see African penguins and hear the distinctive call which gave them the name “jackass penguins”.

With three centuries of wine-growing heritage, the Franschhoek Valley is one of the Cape’s top wine areas—and the Franschhoek Wine Tram, a vintage-style tram, is the perfect way to explore. Travel in air-conditioned comfort from downtown Cape Town, then choose between purple and orange lines. Besides an onboard wine tasting and narration, you’ll have time to visit four or five of the eight estates your chosen line offers.

I bought a 3 day unlimited pass. The various tour routes are an easy, inexpensive way to visit all of the major attractions; Table Mountain cablecar, V&A Waterfront, botanical gardens, etc.. but also an excellent way to see the wonderful nearby seaside towns.

Honestly, why would one drive when the main reason for taking these tours is to have a form of transportation? We used this service to go Signal Hill for the sunset. Driving is not advisable to go up there with the traffic.
