Lovely little town outside of Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park. The estuary naturally closed from the ocean and it is now a lake of briny water. Hippos are everywhere. And do mind the HUGE crocs. We did not see any of the trapped sharks. The town peoples are super friendly, and small enough to walk all over (if you do not mind... More

St . Lucia estuary is an amazing place for a lot of things, but the 2-3 hour boat rides are WELL worth it! Fish eagles, crocs, kingfishers, herons, hippos, etc. - all of it make the trip a great way to start seeing African wildlife. That's why we do it as a start to our safari. Folks from the USA... not so much too see but nice visit. You will stay about 2 hours on the boat for 10km and see some crocodiles, hyppo and birds.

Not too expensive (in comparison with other attractions in the area), I recommend to go on the boat at the end of the afternoon (leaving around 3 pm in winter) to have the sunset over the estuary. Hippos are very numerous. Crocodiles are seldom.

A boat cruise on the lake (or estuary) offers a rare opportunity to experience nature at its most unspoiled best. Watch nile crocodiles sun themselves on the banks of the lake while families of hippos lie around the shallows. Between the mangrove swamps, the amazing water birds and lovely waterways, St. Lucia is a 'must do' destination. While you're there... More

We took a two hour cruise on the estuary which is home to many birds as well as crocs and hippos. Great experience and beautiful area.

This was set up by the tour company and was a very relaxing morning tour of the river estuary. It's hard to see more than the heads and backs of the hippos immersed in the water but it's wonderful to hear the noises they make.

A stroll along the St. Lucia estuary board walk is a must do activity if you are in the area. It's a very pleasant stroll late afternoon. If you have any interest in nature there are always a variety of birds to be seen and you cannot miss the huge crocs lying around on the mud banks.

We took a cruise down the river. We saw about 60 hippos, 6 crocodiles and a variety of birds. We did the cruise that left at 3:00 pm so we were able to see an amazing African sunset. The cruise is very gentle and they sell drinks and snacks. They have 2 bathrooms on board. We enjoyed the whole experience... More
