Once, the Sani Pass was a rough mule trail descending the Eastern Highlands of old Basutoland into Natal. Tough drovers brought wool and mohair down the Pass on donkeys and mules to be exchanged for blankets, clothing and maize meal, the essentials for life in a remote, impoverished country. And a young man had a dream of operating a motor vehicle service up this fantastic Pass, using the 4-wheel drive vehicles he had seen on service in World War II. His name was David Alexander and he founded this Company in 1955. It has operated on the Sani Pass ever since.

First impressions were amazing, friendly helpful and insightful staff. Their guides/drivers have to be the most amazing guides I have ever encountered, points to a bunch of rocks and says Eland... huh? Sure enough the rocks stand up and start to move... Eland of course! Spots the most brilliant lizard sunning himself on the rocks, knows the mountains intimately and... More

Since we were in the Drakensberg with our 4 year old and hiking with her was out, we were glad to have booked the Sani pass tour. Our tour guide Roger was knowledgeable and professional. 4x4 felt a bit old and worn down inside but we felt safe especially at some of the more treacherous turns. We would stop regularly... More

The ride up the Sani Pass into Lesotho was a truely amazing experience. Our driver, Phillip Grant was knowledge, interesting and entertaining. The scenery has to be seen to be believed and being amongst local people and invited in for home made bread and beer was a privilege. Many thanks Phillip.

This is definitely worthwhile if you're nearby (or even in Durban...rent a car and drive to them), even if you have little interest in visiting Lesotho. You'll leave around 9:30 in a mixed group in a 4x4 and climb the Sani Pass. It takes a while to do, but the views are spectacular. You don't drive very fast, either, so... More

Our tour group of about 35 used Sani Pass Tours for a day trip in to Lesotho. Their 4x4 vehicles were waiting for us in the parking lot by their offices in Underberg. There were restrooms available in the little strip mall there and they were clean and well stocked. We had a wonderful day that included: The drive up... More

We had booked with this operator as it was the most expensive but promised comfortable seating arrangements. My mum recently had a back operation and the concern was to ensure a comfortable trip there and back for her. To our dismay we had to share a Toyota Prado with 6 adults in total in the vehicle. The back seat of... More

My partner and I recently took a trip to Lesotho via the Sani Pass using Sani Pass Tours as the guides and transport. We were collected from The Sani Pass Hotel on time but unfortunately much to my annoyance we were told we had share a space designed to two with a fairly big man which meant that one of... More

For R790 it was just a joke, unlike some other companies nothing is included in the price. You are promised a full day trip but you are wasting lots of time by formalities either in their office or on the borders, not mentioning that driver literally stops at every bird which is boring and annoying. If you have ever been... More
